Hey davidpu...Sorry if I wasn't very cordial, not too used to getting up at 2 AM and riding in such cold...Oh yes, and work on house stuff/my truck has progressed much faster than I thought, so I should be able to get my valves checked tomorrow (Sunday) and get new shims, if I need them, ordered and coming my way Monday morning.  I haven't talked with Danny lately, so I might be able to send the kit out before this week is out.  Eisenfaust, I'm sending you a PM now to get your address...so I can ship it out as soon as I'm done with it.

hey don't worry about it. I completely understand, I was expecting snow in the pass and there wasn't any so I made great time,  I was expecting to be there around 8 not 2.

The Buddha

So Davipu rode his bike to Southern CA to give you the kit ... damn that's some service ... same day delivery eh... and we mean it...

no no, I rode down with my mother as she was wanting to drive down to SD for thanksgiving.

Mk1inCali

And I rode 5 minutes west to Highway 99 from my house on my GS.  Reminded me of being back at my old job, get up at 4 in the morning and ride up to Chowchilla/Madera area to inject Posilac into cows.

Man, I hated that job.

11.50/hr was really nice though for a kid fresh out of HS with a big block truck to buy parts for...

heh.. I picked a townhouse that is as close as possible to my work... like .5 miles... my car isn't even warmed up (when I drive it!) by the time I get there.... and I can ride even if it's cold cause it's so short

school, on the otherhand, is a 10 mile, 45 minute commute in heavy traffic... rarely ride the bike cause I worry about aircooled+stopped traffic==bad...

Not so fast!

Check out this old post.  Ignore the helmet-related stuff, if you can.

ok, so it is legal if done in a safe and prudent manner.

Eisenfaust

Lanesplitting is.. interesting. Its a skill needed for survival here in SF... I'll do it if theres no dferental in speed between the lanes I'm splitting.... something about having different speeds on each side of me icks me, saftey wise... one more factor in an already difficult juggling act.

My preferred thing, and something that doesnt really qualify as lanesplitting, but still goes tolerated by (at least) the SFPD... going to the head of a line at a light, between the cars. Makes city riding so much easier.

se7enty7

its illegal to lanesplit here.. even if it was legal i wouldn't do it.  at most, I'll pass a couple of STOPPED cars at a red light to get to where I can turn

here in atlanta people dont pay attentiont to jack

I have noticed that people down in LA/SoCal are much better about leaving room for bikes than cage pilots are here in San Joaquin Valley...must be the huge number of bikes that do it down there, along with people's time spent in stopped rush hour traffic.  I like doing it, I feel like people are actually watching for me while splitting, rather than waiting to rear-end me or cut me off completely.  Saves massive amounts of time, even on my city's main drag which is just 4 lanes with malls on each side.

here in atlanta I think it's a "you're smaller than me, therefore you should GET OUT OF MY WAY."

I've seen it on my bike and in my car..

I guess I should since I'm east coast... but I think I'll hold out for Kerrys Cd/dvd for dummies: unless that poses a shipping problem.  After me it was called by Jeff in MD.

I'm still working on the final DVD, but I'd be happy to supply a "Rough Edit" CD to go in Srinath's kit for now.

PM me your address and I'll send one out today or tomorrow.  (I'm assuming that you will be getting Srinath's kit at the same time.)

and let me know your address...

thanks!

also, I added the allen wrench required to remove the valve cover... it's the only thing that's involved with adjusting valves that wouldn't be in a socket set...  if I can find my telescoping magnet I may include that as well

Good show!  :thumb:  I guess I should have done that, too.

For anyone on the waiting list for my kit, you'll need:
    1) A 10mm socket -- to remove the side plastics ('89 to '00 models)

    2) A 12mm socket or wrench -- for the fuel tank mounting bolts

    3) A flathead screwdriver -- to turn off the petcock under the fuel petcock.  The longer the better.

    4) Pliers -- to unhook the fuel hoses from the tank.

    4) A 6mm Allen wrench - to remove the valve cover.  The longer the better.[/list:u]Everything else is "in there".  Well, except for some optional acetone and Q-tips.  (For cleaning out the groove in the valve cover -- in case you want to seal the gasket onto the cover.)
