I had two identical 6mm allen wrenches... of the perfect size.  They fit around things really well to remove the valve cover....

OK... I just sent PM's to Kerry and Se7enty7.

Thanks guys :thumb:

Oh BTW... Se7enty7 is sending me Srinaths kit so I'm off the list for Kerrys kit.  East coasters that want Srinaths kit next can PM me or let me know.

yep, kit is going out tommorow.

edit:
people that send these kits back and forth... it's probably a good idea to send it delivery confirmation and insured.  That way, there's no liability on anyone but the post office.

OK, so the "Kerry's Toolkit List" currently looks like this:
    *
MkinCali (has it right now)
* Eisenfaust

My class got cancelled for tomorrow, so after work I am riding home and checking my bike out.  Since it's been jetted correctly it's whole life, with 8.3K miles on it now, I should be able to use shims from the kit if it even needs anything different...I don't know if Daniely will be able to get his bike over to my house also, but the kit will be sent out to Eisenfaust on Monday, the 6th.  I think it's the 6th.  Anyway, Eisenfaust, send me a PM with your mailing address so I can box it up and have it headed your way Monday morning.

Kerry, there are already 2 copies of the Rough Edit .wmv CD's included with the kit.  Shall I include my copy since I am going to buy a DVD from you, so we can distribute the WMV versions to people that would rather have 'em, riding piggyback on the toolkit?

Sure, why not?  If anyone wants to keep one of the CDs in case they buy their own tools "for next time" ... they can!

Update-Checked my bike this afternoon, 3 were tight, both exhausts had 2.75's, so I moved down to 2.65's to get a clearance of .07 on both sides.  Right side intake was too tight (<.04mm) with it's 2.55 although I could spin the bucket really easily, but there were no 2.50's in the kit and I'm not going to have time to order anything smaller by next Monday.  The left intake clearance was .04 as is, but I don't know what size shim it had.  Now I'm off to put the valve cover back on and re-assemble.  Hope to do it in 20 mins or so...I'm not as quick as Kerry (14 minute man!!).

Whahoo!!!  She runs!!!  No leaks either.  I ended up playin' guitar with one of my bass-playing friends and then taking forever to eat dinner, I watched a short bit of a show on the Bakersfield sound (early country music).  Anyway, all that took way longer than what it should have, but I messed around and cleaned the engine and frame and carbs up really well and took my time actually doing the adjustment/check since it was my first try at it.  So...all told, actual time spent working on it...definitely under 2 hours, probably 1:15-1:25 or so.  With messing around cleaning it up like somebody might, schedule 3 hours to get it all done and you will be safe.  Oh yeah, Kerry's video served very well as a visual check list to getting everything un-done in the proper order.

Great stuff having all the tools ready and right there, and clean to boot.  I'm going to order some shims from my 'Zuki dealer here in town and ship them to whoever has the kit when they reach me as my donation to keeping the tool kit around and available.  Anybody know how much each shim will cost?  I figure I'll stick 15-20 bucks into 'em if they are 2 bucks each or so.  That sound about right for prices?  Ideas on something else I could buy to help the cause rather than sizes of shims that are currently not in the kit?

Unfortunately, I think they range from $7 to $12 or so - each!   :o

Sure enough, the vendors on my Parts Fiche Links page list them at $7.86, $8.40 and $10.34.

A good dealer will swap you straight across for used shims in their colledction of cast-offs.  Or they might charge you $5 or so.  It all depends....

JEEZ...I guess I should have checked to see how much they were before saying that...Ah well..I'll figure out some way to donate something to keep the kit alive.

OK I was thinking We can machine up shims that are thinner than 2.15 or thicker than 3.15 was it ... what is the big deal... sand off the thin ones to get even thinner... and OK have to make thicker ones... but its basically a hunk of steel, we could heat it cherry red with a torch and drop it in water or oil ... and have it heat treated ... its steel, do what ever with it, very good and predictable to work with. Anyone here have any ideas ... or think this one is dumb ....
Cool.

once you start going thinner you are going to have problems with heat warping, and at that point you need to figure out why the valve is seating so far into the head,  ie worn valve seat, streched valve shim not seating in shim bucket (heat warpage of bucket).  thicker shims have other problems, like  carbon build up behind the valve face that isn't allowing it to seat.  once you start going so thick you also might have clearance problems between the valve and the piston.

The Buddha

OK I thought thicker was wear on the cams ... OK you start losing lift and hence power ... but other than that ... thick should not be an issue ... Oh never mind I answered my own Question... thicker is wear on stems and buckets ... the round side of cam never hits the shim or anyhting for that matter ...
Cool.

You just did!  The list now looks like this:
    *
MkinCali (has it right now)
* Eisenfaust
* Jeff P
* raceratb[/list:u]Did I leave anyone out?

EDIT: I should have asked whether you were closer to the East coast or the West one.  Either way, you might consider getting on the list for Srinath's kit instead.  I believe it's a  shorter list.  Let us know!

Your .0015" blade is about .038mm thick.  The thinnest blade in "the kit" is .04mm, so no advantage there.   :(

But hopefully the tool and the shims (and the video) will be useful.  :dunno:

Did you happen to take an inventory of the shim collection?  What's the thinnest one?  (Not counting the "test shim".)

Eisenfaust - Could you print out a copy of my just-completed Valve Shim Selection Chart for inclusion in the kit?
