Hey all. I'm getting ready to buy all the parts for a rejet.  Having a hard time with the #40 pilots though.  Found the 125 mains on bikebandit ($9 for 4) but no luck on the pilots.  I called up the closest Suzuki shop, but they couldn't determine exactly which one I need.  I gave them the part #09420-40014, but that didn't nail it down for 'em.  I'm waiting for a call back from a different, non-Suzuki shop.

Any solid leads on where I could find these things?

The K&L number is 42-7130. Packs of 4 only ... so you can hock the rest ...  :lol:

Well the dealers buy from a place called K&L ... or tucker rocky ... that is the number for either ... the thing is from K&L, but the bag they come in says Tucker rocky/Nempco I think. OK fine if your dealers cannot find their ass with 2 hands ... I'll send you some ... advantage ... you can buy 2 ... not 4, disadvantage ... mailing costs ... prolly $1-2 but maybe better than having 4 ...

If you go to a suzuki dealer they will ask you the model of your bike and what kind of carbs it has.  Tell them Mikuni.  If they try to give you pilots that are an inch long they are the wrong ones...tell them you need the short ones...and if they give you short pilots with 8 little holes drilled into the sides but they say #40 on them, tell them you need the 37.5 pilots.

So here is the checklist:

1/2" Mikuni pilots for the GS500E, NOT the 1"

#40 if they DONT have the 8 holes in the sides

37.5 pilots if they DO have the 8 holes drilled in the sides(the holes in the sides of the 37.5 make them equal to the #40 without the holes).

BTW, you will need 2 pilots: one for each carb.


To assist them in determining which pilots you will need, pull your carbs off, take the float bowl covers off of the bottoms.  Remove the floats(just pull them until they come out, but don't lose the dangling little needle that hangs on the shiny metal tab.  And use a little flat head screwdriver to remove the stock pilots.  Take your stock pilots with you to the dealer OR just remember what they look like.

Ok I think I might be on to something.  I typed 42-7130 in Google and found a site (gohondasuzukiworld.com) that lists these jets.  Packs of 4 like srinath says.  They have another part # of N151.067.  So, I check for that on bikebandit where I'm ordering other stuff, and sure enough they're listed as KN151.067 for $13.  Pictures all look the same.  Does this look like a go?

I would just go to the dealer today and have the bike rejetted by tonight...but that's just me...I hate waiting for crap...

Well since it's 40 degrees here now, all I've got is time.  I'd rather buy $10 worth of parts and do it myself.

What I meant was go to the dealer and buy the pilots...I would never pay the dealer to do anything to my bike, period.  They wanted to charge me $250 dollars to rejet my bike and I did it myself with $20 in parts and a few hours....but now I know exactly how to rejet a carb and exactly how a carb works...priceless...

Now you know why they call motorcycle dealers "stealers".

Got it.  Unfortunately this is DC and the Suzuki dealer is a Buddha Loves You to get to due to traffic much of the time.

The only people who take their bike to stealers to get work done are the rich and the uninformed.

The part number from Bike bandit (N151.067) does sound right ... but last year I tried to buy from there and they were back ordered and ... So try it and else call the stealer...

If you want to be extra-cheap, you can just drill-out the old pilots:
1/64" drill bit = 39.96 size pilots
#78 drill bit = 40.64 pilots

Either size drill bit should work.  Drill bits are $1 each at my local hobby store.  Use an Xacto knife handle to hold the drill bit:



Just press the bit in and turn gently, and the hole will widen.  You can use the bit again when you clean the carbs next time, to make sure that the hole hasn't become partially clogged.

Well that pin vice idea is really worth its weight in gold ... not on the GS, but on my virago I drilled it ... and guess what ... the best pin vice is ... the carbs ... dont even take it out ... drill right there ... of course on a GS its better to remove and swap ... the pilot is in a damn tunnel with no access to the other side ...
