Greetings,
I am buying a 99 GS500e this evening, but its battery is dead and I have no idea how to get at it. I assume it's under the seat, but I couldn't quite figure out how to open the seat compartment. It's an aftermarket Corbin seat, if that makes a difference.
Could anyone tell me how to pop the seat? Sorry for such a dumb question. I'd read the owner's manual, but, well, I assume that's under the seat too.

Also, is it ok to jump start this bike using another motorcycle battery and jumper cables?

is there not a lock underneath the seat?  it should open the latch, and the battery is right under being held by two screws

Well, I guess that's the issue. I don't know where the lock is. I saw the bike last night in a not-well-lit garage. I felt like an idiot standing there for 10 minutes trying to figure out how to pop the seat. Thankfully the woman selling the bike didn't know how to open it either, so that made me feel a tad better.

Look at the back wheel and the rear foot peg you can see a lock cylinder.
This is for the seat lock.

To answer your other question, it's perfectly fine to jump start a bike with another bike's batery and jumper cables.  If you ever have to just a bike off a car, that's OK as well, but be sure that the car is turned off.  If the engine on a car that you're getting a jump from is turned on, it will fry your battery (I had that happen to me a few years ago with my second bike.)  If you take a jump from another bike, be sure that bikes engine is on.  Hope this helps!
