FAQ:  You used to sell to Canadians and other foreign buyers.  Why have you stopped doing this?

To limit our exposure from fraud, we verify the shipping address of each order we process.  In the US, this is done automatically using an "Address Verification System" and only takes a few seconds while we run credit card payments.  This system unfortunately is not available in Canada and other foreign countries and manual verification has become too time consuming to be practical.

Also, we have not been able to find a trouble free way of shipping to Canadian addresses.  The US Post Office is the most economical  and reliable means, but it can take as long as 30 days for a package to go through customs and reach the buyer.  Also, the US Post Office does not offer a tracking function.  This level of service is really not acceptable to most Canadian buyers, and unfortunately we find ourselves on the receiving end of their frustration (without any means of helping them).

It's unfortunate.  I've had great success ordering from NewEnough and cannot find similar deals anywhere locally, even after paying for shipping and handling and duty.

How far is it to the United States from Toronto? If it means that much, you could find a place just over ther border you could have things shipped to and then go pick them up from there yourself.

Looks like you're just about angry enough to get a U.S. Post Office Box at Lewiston or Niagra Falls NY.  Just a pleasant 90 minutes drive away along the QEW.

(Used to be that) Anybody can rent a box for a reasonble price (plus cost of a key) and you've got a place (in the US) to get mail, including a NewEnough stuff.

Something to consider?

Pleasant drive?  I hate that stretch of the QEW between Toronto and the border -- and I don't even think it's only because one needs to drive past Hamilton to get there.  I'm not a big fan of Niagara Falls, though, either.

It's probably because US Customs officials forcefully ejected me from the train one time while trying to cross.

Long story.  :)

I should have been a bit more obvious in my sarcasm.  I agree, it usually is a pain -- miles of industrial plazas occassionally salted by views of Lake Ontario and the odd vineyard, the Hamilton Skyway bridge and the slowing of traffic once east of the Welland Canal.

But the U.S. side is also not without its lack of charm, but let's not go there.  (Oops, I'm already there  ;) )

I think it stems from the past and the War of 1812 which actually lasted about 3 years.

If you recall history the War of 1812 was betwen the United States of America and Great Britain.  The  war was due to the fact that the United States had been irritated by the failure of the British to withdraw from American territory along the Great Lakes at the end of  the American Revolution in 1783; their backing of the Indians on America's frontiers and for being just a pain in the ass.

Well to get to the point the British and  Canadian militia forces fought the United States in this war and somewhere along the line in 1814 some dumb asses burned the White House and the Capital building in Washington. Being that the Canadians and British fought together against the Americans then one could only say that Canada had something to do with the fire.

Why else would they not ship to Canada.

I could be wrong but it does sound like a good reason.

Blingmasta, Redshift,

I've thought about getting a post office box in the past, but the biggest problem is not the shipping address.  It's the address on the credit card.  Vendors, no fault of their own, have a hell of a time verifying/authorizing  canadian credit cards through their payment gateway providers.  To really solve the problem I would need a US post box and have a US bank issue me a US credit card.

I think I'll resort to begging members on this board to help me out.  I would be comfortable sending money via paypal or money order, and include the total cost to ship from NewEnough to the US member's address, plus the additional cost to ship to Canada.

Well, if they don't want to take your money, you may have to find someone else who will.  Somebody out there should be willing to help a Canadian get gear short of emigrating.

Good luck in your hunt...

Worst case scenario, you might be able to find an expatriot who would be willing to relay crap across the border.  Tip:  Bribe them with stuff unavailable here in the US like Smarties, Coffee Crisp bars, or ketchup flavoured potato chips.

I have faith you'll find someone hungry^H^H^H^H^H^Hnice enough to take care of you.  :)

Hey, I'll vote for Smarties in favour of M&M's any day.  Besides, you've never lived until you've had an Aero bar, or a Crunchie with a glass of milk.  And don't get me started about the differences between US and Canadian Trident sugarless gum...

Culture is a great thing -- something to be shared.   :)

My Name Is Dave

But I'm pretty sure we have Smarties, assuming these are what you mean:

Unless we had them in the past and no longer do. But I know the cheap-skates used to give those out by the handfull on Halloween where I grew up.

Not exactly.  I think Redshift and the gang are referring to these :

http://www.nestle.com/Our_Brands/Chocolate_Confectionery/Smarties/

However, I'll be the first to admit the Brits have it best.  Nothing can compare to chocolate with "E Factor", whatever that is -- it's banned in North America.  The same bars made in the UK taste a million times better than those made here.  Especially Cadbury Milk Chocolate bars... mmmmmm...

That's new to me!  I just looked it up -- Maple Syrup spread, sort of like Nutella, but with Maple Syrup.  Maybe I'll test it on my kids  :)

I'll help you out...

I live about 40 minutes from the bridge/tunnel in the Detroit Area.  Plus...I'm in Burlington (just a little bit from Toronto) about once a month.  Stupid Ikea.

Anyway, if you need stuff from their site, I don't mind helping you out.  They've got some awesome customer service.  You'll have to wait a little while though, I'll be in Germany till late July...
