Quote from: RVertigoActually... I bet warm-ups make a noticeable different in over-all gas mileage...

I only ride 15 miles, about 9 freeway miles, each direction...

According to sites I've found, the GS is supposed to get 60 MPG, but I'm assuming that's about 5K RPM in 6th.

I'd love to get 80 MPG...  But, I don't want to ride a 90cc.   :P

My commute is around 17 miles each way all surface, but mainly 4-5k in 6th. Being in Riverside, CA has the "advantage" of warmup being about 10 seconds.... and not really needed in the afternoon. The bike sits in the shade but its still a little to hot to touch the tank with bare hands, in the morning the bike needs choke, but runs normal after maybe 25s of 1/2 choke.

Should I warm it up more in the morning? Its about 60-70 outside and probably close to 80 in the garage?

If you can ride it with the choke off and it doesn't argue with you, then it's warm...  When it's warm here, it doesn't take long to warm up...  I leave it at 4Gs for about a minute...  Then kill the choke and see how the throttle response is...  When it's cold, that's a different story.

I still don't see how anyone can get 80 MPG on a 500cc...   :dunno:

There's a really good chance I simply got more gas in it the first fill than the second. Honestly, I'd be happy with the 50-55 I'd been expecting and don't really think I did get 80. But I'm 120m or so into my next tank, and have a long ride (in relative terms...) this weekend so I'll let you know.

And besides, its only 487cc ;)

Okay, refilled at 187 miles and squeezed 3 gallons in after sloshing the tank back and forth. so I'll figure 63MPG. The pump cut off a little less than 1/2 gallon before that (which was where I filled to it last time).

Yep, consistency is the key.  As long as you fill the tank the same way every time, you can get reliable MPG figures no matter which method you use.

But if you want to go as far as possible on a tank....

PS: 63mpg ... now I feel a little better  ;)
