a lot of people think nice is weak.  and sometimes it is.  but being nice can also come from strength.

protecting your (drunk) girl friend from rape and pillage is nice.
letting her walk all over you, because in some deep part of your mind you are still hoping that she will have an epiphany and end up with you is just stupid.

the funny thing is that the nice-guys-finish-last saying is even more true than people realize. in several species of monogamous birds (birds are what i studied, i have a feeling this phenomenon repeats itself), a lot of males end up raising someone else's offspring.  it seems that the females of those species are predisposed to separate males into two categories -- breeders and fathers. breeders are the big strong pretty birds with good genes, who father more viable offspring.  however, breeders are averse to raising the chicks. why do so, when the females are lining up?  so after fertilization, the females find a nice stable father-figure, let them fruitlessly copulate, and then let them raise the breeder's offspring.

the cincher is that i read of a similar study of /people/ in england, i believe, where the same exact pattern was followed.  the number of women who admitted to doing just that was staggering, with something likea third of the "fathers" out there raising someone else's kids.

so, to all you nice guys, beware of the girl that says no no no no no yes.

I've noticed that also; the girls that only go for "jerky" guys are extremely immature and lack self-esteem. They have "issues" for sure, self confidence issues, trust issues, maturity issues, and a complete understanding of what what want and need as women.

What they really WANT is a strong, confident man that doesn't take any crap and knows how to be a 'man'. But they mistake the jerky punk's cockiness for the manly confidence they are actually looking for. They can't tell the difference yet because they too, are immature and don't know themselves letalone anyone else.

And no I dont play that friend game ... usually it gets the equivalent of "you are a lousy idiot who would suck my brain dry ... why would I want such a friend" Thankfully ... there is nothing wrong with adoption.  there IS something wrong with your wife telling you the kid is yours when he's really your neighbor's.  that third thinks the kids are theirs.
