Local stealers want as high as $50 for a set of fork seals..
I know I can get them for less then $20..

Where are you guys getting them?

I got Parts Unlimited ones from the stealer for a little over 20, maybe $22?  But then I also bought dust caps that were another $24 maybe...

Both are cheaper from online sources, see http://gstwin.com/parts_fiche_by_year.htm.  Look on the "Front Damper" sheet.  Mr Cycles usuallly being the cheapest.  Also, they have been on sale on ebay for $10 buy it now only.

i bought mine on ebay for like $12 shipped from a guy in the uk.  Got them in less than a week.

Quick little thread jack, then back to the topic at hand. I noticed that I am missing one of the screws on the front of my headlight fairing (parts 5 & 6 on the parts fiche http://www.hillsboromotorcycles.com/fiche_section_detail.asp in the "Cowling Body" section).

First of all, how in the hell did this fall off? And secondly, is it even necessary? Yes, I know the bike will run fine without it, but will the windshield fly off or anything if I just leave it?

A note here: I tightened these during my initial tune-up and the one that is now missing was turning and getting tight, then loosening, repeat. Like a stripped nut or something. I dunno.

Just curious if this matters.

Stick with stock style seals, dont buy leak proof, I put them in and they didnt fit worth a crap and they leaked right away, pyles of, well you get the message. :guns:

on ebay you can sometimes find them for ten bucks.   I got a set for 14 at backroads triumph in Jacksonville.

I got mine at the dealership for $13 each so $26 total for seals and $24 for the dust boots which were $12 each.

Dennis Kirk has OE-style Lemans fork seals for $7.95 each.  DK part number is 14-228

(In the paper catalog they are listed as Parts Unlimited items.)

Are those Dennis kirk ones exactly like stock, I need to replace my leakproof pyles and want new stock ones.  I should have stuck with the old moto, if it aint broke dont fix it.  I fixed it till it was broke. :dunno:

As far as I can tell, yes.  LeakProof Standard and LeakProof ProMoly seals were listed separately in the catalog.

I picked up some seals on eBay really cheap.....

Those are plastic screws and will strip easily.  All they do is go to a rubber grommet of sorts with a nut at the back.  They compress the grommet when tightened and hold the parts in place.  No, the windscreen will not fly off, the two phillips head at the top corners by the mirrors on the rider side (black plastic) go through holes in the windscreen then into the outside fairing.
