ok so why is point A hitting the rotor before the actual brake pad?!  it can slip past the pad.  these are brand new pads with 0 miles. the pad's inner edge is lined in green.

Hey, how about posting this at the end of your other thread on the topic?

Too much flashlight talk, I guess.  Sorry about that.

It looks like a squeal tab, to me. I know they used to have them in the 80's on cars. Is it part of the pad or the shim behind the pad? I never reinstalled them on my cars. 8)

its part of the whole bracket that moves back and forth.  it keeps the pad in place but gets to the rotor before the pad does.  the design makes no sense to me.

Any feedback on the pictures I took for your other thread?

Are we talking about the same thing?  The lines you drew above kinda obscure the item you're trying to show us. :dunno:

ok kerry.  your first picture shows the metal clip ie pad guide.  when mine hit the rotor it got all bent up and when i tried bending it back it broke.  but really i dont see its purpose at all.  it still allows the bracket thing to slip past the pad and contact the rotor first however this time its the metal clip that touches and scores my rotor.
so now i dont have a rotor.  btw i noticed that the bracket reaches the rotor first in two places as marked in the new picture below.

YES! That's it! There are supposed to be a couple of plastic (mine are hard plastic) inserts, one in each piston!

are they flush with the rim of the piston?? how come i dont see them in the parts fiches?

coll0412

Yeah mine dont have the inserts...and they shouldn't matter since the piston would jujst have to go out a little farther

What is interesting is that if I push the mounting bracket out farther I have the same problem as you...(sorry for the fuzzy pic my roomate helped)

Here is what my caliper looks like when it first came off....

You can see that the slide can move back and forth, the metal clip and the end has no effect.

Do you have the metal clip thing on top of the caliper( or in the pics under the pads)??

So check the slides and make sure that the mounting bracket can go as far back as possible and make sure that the it can move freely.

Also compare your old pads to the new ones....

I'll keep thinking about this....

thank you for the pics coll.  no i dont have the small metal clip. i removed it after i determined it had no effect to my problem.  i have the same problem with the old and the new pads.  the slide moves freely as you describe.  everything you posted is exactly the way mine is.  WTF!

actually I was wondering if you have the other large clip that goes on the top of the caliper( it is hidding in my pics cuz its covered in brake dust)

Can you move the mouting bracket all the way in, and give it a shot again.
I think if you push the bracket all the way in, then mount the caliper and give the brake lever a good squeeze it should work, cuz it did for me.

I wonder if maybe you should splurge the $.99 for the clip... 8)
