Being Rich also doesn't make more power. Well if you are 5% richer than ideal your bike will run like crap. 5% leaner and you may not even notice it. So the bike may be just right. Nothing wrong with that but kinda tips the scales in its favor.
Cool.

Find out how much registration is.  If it has not been register for a long time it may have to pay some steep dues (at least in California).  So find out if the bike was register non-operational or if it owes several years of registration.  The DMV does not forgive anything (specially now that California is in such a large deficit).  This could swing the vote fast as 2 years of overdue registration plus next years registration would be around $300.  That would pay for a mechanic to do all the work on the 99.

he-llo?
man you drug this up from the past...

Since james is rarely here at all these days I'll tell you that, yes, he bought the yellow 99. installed a bandit rear wheel...rode it a bunch but lately has been mountain biking and working on his volkswagen vanagon more than anything else...and moving forward on a master suite addition to his house that I am helping him with...

this is from the last time he rode with me at Angeles Crest-sept 04, on a gstwin.com M&G ride. Kerry was the guest of honor since he was visiting LA...

pandy, you crack me up...

Huh.  You'd think I would have remembered someone riding a '99....  :dunno:

Did he head back before we got to the turn-around point?

I thought indestructibleman had the only GS on the ride, although the guy from the husband-and-wife team used to own one.  Am I leaving somebody out?

Good summary, Pablo.  Amazing that those chicken legs of mine ^^^^ can push a mt bike.

Actually, with the cost of gas making my commute by car more expensive than my lunch, I aim to be riding more in the very near future.  In fact, I finally got a new battery for the GS... (And confirmed what I've long suspected: Battery acid in the eyes BURNS like a muther humper!)

How did this thread get resurrected?  Who are you people??!!  :)

I like the 99...mostly 'cause I have one, and it's a sexy beast!!  :thumb:

Other than that, you're on your own.  Both need work.  Sounds like the 97 would require a bigger initial investment (i.e. carbs and tires).  I'm also leery of the low miles.  I know a lot of people love low mile deals, but at least with the 99, you know it has been ridden successfully for 9000 miles.  To me, that shows reliability.  The 97 only has 900 miles.  That means it's just barely broken in, and it already has issues with the way it runs?  Also, a 97 with 900 miles has obviously sat A LOT!  :dunno:

My .02.

edit:

WTF?!?  Why didn't I look at the dates on the post.  I didn't even look at the 2nd page to see that this was an old thread.   :guns: to whoever made me read this old crap.  :P
