Gas in the GS

They are predicting $4.00 a gallon gas by early next week!  I only live 8 miles from the office where I work, but the weather is supposed to be sunny, and warm (not hot), so methinks its time to start driving the bike on the commute.

The only thing that will stink is dealing with rush hour stop'n'go (annoying no matter what kind of vehicle you're in... but not as bothersome if you're in the car and can turn on the radio).

I guess my bike purchase was pretty timely....  is anyone else planning to dust off their modern-day stallions and ride commute on them into the sunset?

Ride to work?  What a concept.

The upside is a little less stop and a little more go, once you get a feel for it you can cut through queues of traffic but don't get too ambitious at the start.

In Cricket the testicular guard, or Box, was introduced in 1874. The helmet was introduced in 1974. Is there a message??

I've been commuting for months now! You can always leave a little earlier in the morning for the first few days to get your sea....er...bike legs on!  :thumb:

Who's they?  'cause I think $3.00 will come before $4.00...

I'm a little excited about paying $5.00 a gallon. :thumb:  Maybe people will stop driving GIANT SUVs.

You've been cynical lately.

I see you've purchased a '91 GS500.

Just paid $2.99 for midgrade to fill up the truck... youch!!!  $62.00 and it was only at 1/4 tank!!  It F'ing went from $2.61 to $2.89 in ONE day, then to $2.99 in another!!!
I think I might ride the bike to work a few days next week!!!  Will have to change into slacks when I get there... but darn, to save $6-8 a day it's worth the PIA!!!

When I need to wear a dress, I tuck it into my riding pants.

It's been one of those years.

I found out yesterday that one of my income streams abruptly went byebye, so my budget no longer includes gas, insurance, and payments on the Breva (well, it would if I gave up the GSX-R and track, but I won't).  So that's going to have to go bye.  And my knee has gotten significantly worse over the last three months.  I dunno what to do about that.

If I had to wear a dress I don't think I'd ride either.   Sorry, just had to type this -- before Davipu beats me to it...

Doing the math that means you can pack 80 gallons in that beast.  Geez, hope you have a locking gas cap on that thing.  ;)

I just heard that most of the gas stations in my area were out of gas. So if that keeps up the gas is coming out of my truck and going into the GS. And if push comes to shove I do have 2 bicycles but using them on my commute would be suicide.

Not if you can split lanes.  :nana:

TarzanBoy

very illegal here in georgia.  I'm not saying that it isn't done.... but with the prevalence of SUV's driven by entitled suburbanites.... driving down the emergency lane is usually much, much safer.

My problem is that my 8 mile commute is down a 2 lane main road through town with traffic lights.  So, no highway speeds

Alphamazing

The only time I don't ride is when it is raining (or going to rain during my commute) or when my bike is in the shop.

Also, from what I've heard, there is talk of lane splitting becoming legal in Texas (at least in certain situations).

...I do not remember. Probably just rumors. I think I heard it from my father, who probably heard it from his message board, who heard it from someone else, ad infinum. But if it were true, that would be GREAT!

I can't believe how much gas will jump! A guy came into my work today that buys grease and lubricants from chevron I guess and he said people from chevron said gas will be going up 65 cents VERY soon. That's here in oregon. Then after that I bet it just goes up, up, up, up. How much would you be willing to pay? I figured out that I can fill up my bike 4 times for every 1 fill on my car and my car gets about 215 on a tank ( 13 mpg).
