That would be sad if true.  The YZF-600R is thought of to be an entry point to the agressive sportbikes, yet not as hard on the body if you want to travel distances with it.

Visiting the Yamaha web site, I'm seeing that they are offering a 2006 model year YZF-600R.  Is this a mistake?  Is 2006 perhaps the last year?

I know European environmental standards killed its offering in that market.  Hope it doesn't disappear here -- I kinda have a thing for it too.  :)

that's what i meant to say...the current model, 2006 which is already out for a while, will be the last one.
My hunch was right...Pandy is the biggest Post Whore!

seems like a lot a people praise the the yzf600r and f4i as being tame 600 bikes with great ergos.

Honestly...maybe it's just me, but I don't find either comfortable at all...they are both sportbikes.  My thighs cramp regularly and wrist carry a lot of weight.

As far as being tame...they have maybe 10-20 hp less then the top 600's out there. And frankly unless you are redlining your not going to tell the difference.  But I'll admit my throttle is a little smoother/more forgiving then the r6, and that might be because of my powercommander.

All those 600's are supersports...get the one you like.
If you are not ready for a gxr 600 your not ready for a yzf600r.

p.s. congrats on the new bike. and sorry I went on little bit of a tangeant.

You go get 'em!!!
This is too weird... I was sitting atop a YZF600R in a show room just Saturday for the first time. Never considered the bike until then - I certainly am now!  :thumb: Never really new much about it. It is comfortable and looks great and in a 1997 comparo with a gixer, a Kawi, Yam and a Honda (all 600cc) it was the best overall. I can't remember what those specific bikes were - doesn't matter really (google it - that's what I did). And who cares that the tech has been around so long - only means IT'S GOOD tech! Heck my buddy rides a 1990 VFR - looks great, sounds great and moves great too.

Anyway I'll be checking back for your impressions on it.  :)

Is there a significant difference between the YZF 600R and the Katana 600?  The ergos look similar, etc.  I'm sure the YZF makes more power, but how much?

I'm going today to get it.  Just waiting to hear back on the credit app.  I don't know the specs on the Katana, but it isn't as powerful as you said, plus I'm not a fan of the looks, but I've heard the riding position is pretty comfortable.

As for the ergos, I was on the ZZR600, an R6, ZX-6R and the seating on the YZF600R puts the bars up a bit and the seat down, so you aren't sitting at such a downward angle.

I'll give a report tonight after I get it.  Plus if it is the last year, then I'm even happier, cause I don't think I could live with the R6.

Just picked it up today.  Pretty easy to get used to.  Gotta get used to the turning on it, the GS feels different.  Anyways I love the Raven paint scheme, and the sound (that V&H was making me deaf, though I did like, just not for extended periods).  Anyways it's supposed to rain tomorrow, so hopefully by next week I'll have a better report.  Plus the GS will be fixed by then so I'll be able to play with both (if I don't sell it first)
