besides going with the sv650 throttle and 1/4 throttle converter - what other ways are there to get a 1/4 throttle for the gs?

thanks for any ideas

The Buddha

Yea ... I will sell you a whiz bang, super duper, magical 1/4 throttle converter that will fit into the bike with no mods at all ... $100 and shipping ... Yea ... comes with its own custom throttle grip as well ...
Cool.

1/4 throttle = 90* turn
1/5 throttle = 72* turn

Less turning required to go from off throttle to WOT. With a standard throttle you have to bend your wrist more and sometimes reposition it. It does make the throttle a little more jumpy, not a real problem for the GS.

ooops - don't know what I was thinking when I said 1/4.    I meant the shortest twist distance, which is obviously 1/5.

you guys should have kept it going - the trusting sucka I can be sometimes, I might have shelled out the $ to Srinath for the stock throttle!  :)

So is going with the sv650 throttle and adapter from www.brgracing.com the cheapest way to go for this?

You just need the SV throttle tube. The SV throttle tube alone is like adding an adapter to the GS throttle tube. Adding an adapter to the SV tube on the GS would make it an even shorter turn, 1/6 maybe. I have all these parts if you want a comparison picture.

just some info I thought I'd pass along in case anyone else was looking

I ended up finding an SV650 1/5 throttle (advertised to fit all 03 TO 05 SV650S,SV650,SV1000S,SV1000) on ebay for 25 bucks.  it was a complete grip tube and even a grip already on it.  I installed it last weekend and fits fine in my stock 96 throttle switch housing.  had to adjust the cable to give a bit more slack, but other then that, no cutting and works just fine.  I really like the shortened twist feel now and it doesn't make our bikes too twitchy  :)

While I didn't see a particular listing for the throttle itself, they confirmed with me that they are available and can be contacted via info here on their website

here's an active auction for a description and pic.

lastly - looking at it up close and comparing it with the stock one, i was thinking that all it is, is the diameter of the circle that the throttle cable wraps around is larger then stock by a little bit.   i think that one could fab up a plastic trim that's about  3/4 circumference of a full circle and a few mm thick to add to the diameter and that would do it.

either way, hopefully any of these options are helpful to those that might be have beening thinking about something similiar.

BigTwin

Hate to bring this back up, but from the way pantablos website says to do this you need the stock sv throttle tube and the 1/5 turn adapter. http://pantablo500.tripod.com/id33.html

Which option is correct? I really hate cocking my wrist to try and go WOT.

It would be nice if all I needed was the stock SV650 throttle tube. Also if you could tell me what year tube I need that would make things a little easier.

Any input would be great, BigTwin

I have not read the write on his site, but you just need the throttle tube. First gen (99-02) were all the same. Not sure about second gen (03+) when they went to FI.

I'll make a note of that. I dont remember where I got that info before. Probably here somewhere.

Having done my share of trackdays I can attest to the necessity of the 1/5 turn throttle. Its hard to get that last bit...but the kit for the 600rr is expensive.

What is so special about the kit? All the ones I have seen (for Suzuki's) are just a piece of machined plastic that snaps on to the throttle tube increasing its diameter.
