Deep breath...Hold nose...JUMP!

I grew up as an Air Force dependent (never liked the term "brat".... ;) )  Lived in OH, FL, LA, NV, AR, MI, West Germany, UT, CO and Italy before I was 20.  Since then I've spent the second 20 years of my life in Utah County.  (Several apartments and homes, but still -- maybe it's time to finally MOVE!)

Married for 17 years, no children except for a 12-year-old Yellow Labrador.  Lost our 11.5-year-old Golden/Lab mix a couple months ago to lymphatic cancer -- my wife misses her something awful.

Got my first bike ('99 GS500E) 3 years ago and haven't looked back since, even after that incident with the cow at 45 mph.... :?

I also chopped the chest bar and made a U shaped bar with handles on the ends so you can actually take it below chest level. I wish I had re fabbed the whole stabilizer bar cos its heavy heavy heavy...
Cool.
Srinath.

OMG... srinath you are the only bastard that would FOCKING MOD a SOLOFLEX!!!

I Will ride with you someday bro :thumb:

Srinath you rock...!!!

For some reason i have the feeling that your Soloflex has more horsepower than my GS and can probably outperform in corners too.  The man does not cease to amaze me..!!!

i will say this though....the friggin' stabilizer bar is heavy...and if i ever have to move again i'm gonna leave it behind....or somehow turn it into some kind of fairing...oh whatever...

My names Matt & I live in tucson, arizona, where I am currently drudging through more s'cool. Im 22 and have a girlfriend currently; she rides horses tho, not bikes (yet ;) ).

I ride my GS every freakin day, and love it to pieces. I do want something larger and faster in the future, but with my GS I'm in no rush :)

I poke around these forums once in a while, and have always found them helpful. thanks and ride on.

here is a picture taken exactly one year ago, when i first got her:
thank you gstwin.com

Seth

What the hell?  I ask/look for fellow Tucson riders numerous times in the past and no one replies.  Now you people are coming out of the wood work now that I've moved.
Must go faster!

Ok, I'm new to this forum so here goes. I'm a 22 year old college senior at Texas A&M.  I started riding about 6 weeks ago on a GZ250 which my mom now has.  My fiance got me into riding when we started dating 8 months ago.  He owns a SuperHawk.  I've had my GS500 ('95) for about a month now.  Got her at a local shop, no idea where she came from but she's mine now. I'm looking to do some mods on her, not sure what yet, and will probably be asking y'all some questions.   8)  I enjoy the heck out of her, except when she gives me problems.  Not too often, but like I said I have no clue where she came from, and no idea what happened to her before I got her.  If anyone lives around College Station (Houston, Austin, even San Antonio or Dallas) let me know. We travel on weekends and take the bikes along if we've got someone to ride with.

The stabilizer bar has the 2 rods welded inside...Just at the ends...Cut the bars right after the welds and the rods will literally fall out...then weld them back together.. I haven't done it myself but I will soon...
Cool.

Man, this is a long thread! My turn I guess. I'm Dan, 28 y.o. Born and raised on Long Island, moved to Southern Virginia 8 years ago. I'm the publisher of a fledgling motorsports magazine (www.octaneonline.com). Been with my lady for almost 3 years. She has an 8 year old son (gonna get him wrenchin' soon!). I live alone with my dog (3 yr. old Australian Shepherd). Had my GS for about 7 years. I enjoy breaking and fixing stuff - especially if it has wheels.

gsJack

I'm a 70 yr old retired ME.  Been married to the same gal for 51 yrs, have 2 children, 6 grandchildren, and one great grandson.  Born in SW PA, moved to Chicago area at age 12 for 20 yrs, and have lived in NE OH since then.

Got my first bike in 1984 at age 52.  Have put 300k miles on 5 bikes since then, including my current 97 GS500 which has accumulated 74k+ miles since new in 3-99.  It's great when work no longer interferes with your riding.

Wife doesn't/won't ride, she's a quilter.  She doesn't ride and I don't quilt.  Works great!

Hi:
My name's Don, and I just got back into riding after a long layoff.  The GS 500 was my first "re-entry" choice, bought new back in 01;  Since that time I've added a Yamaha V-star cruiser to the garage, for longer trips, more comfortable passenger seat, etc.  But I must say, I'd be very happy if the GS was my only bike.  It's got plenty of zip, I've taken it on major hiways, and with a couple bags and a tail pack I'm sure it would be good to go anywhere.  When I jus want to burn some miles, or commute locally, usually I'm going for the GS.

I'm single, living in upstate NY (Lake Placid area) and love the outdoors...the riding is great, just a too-short season.

Very happy I got back into it.  You live once.
