If you take it, I'll paint it with the red I was going to use on my rat before Aaron said he likes blue better.

davipu

i wanted to keep the stock white paint, (I'd probably re do it though) swap out the front end with some 41mm usd forks and put a ts 400 motor in her, and make her a track bike.

The good news is that it was inside.
That's about the only good news on this bike...

Anyone have experience with abandoned titles in WA?  I'm guessing it can't be much for all the paperwork.

RVertigo

OK... Update... This sucks!!!!!!!!!!

Quote from: BS WA DOL FAQHow do I claim a vehicle which has been abandoned on my property?

A property owner cannot claim ownership for an unattended vehicle. They also cannot obtain registration only or apply for a bonded title on these vehicles. The vehicle must be picked up by a tow truck operator and held for 120 consecutive hours. It is then sold at auction by the tow truck company as an Abandoned vehicle.
:x

I guess that poor GS will have to ROT!!  That sucks soo bad...

if it is abandoned get some one from the board that lives near by but out of state to take it and get an abandon vehicle registration from a state tha allows it
oops,  you'll need a new one of them

NightRyder

Ah man! Thats lame! Kinda makes sense though.

Just go down to the DOL or wherever, and be like, "Um, I want to regester my bike." "No I lost all the paperwork many years ago" "Um, yea.. lost it." "Nope, don't have any of it." "It was my dad's, he let it sit for 8 years." "I want to ride it, common!"

or sell it on ebay! ;p

Even better, fix it up, then sell it on ebay. Or fix it up then get it to that tow truck driver. Atleast it will probably be used as a bike, and not a parts bin if you do that.

And you don't have a friend with a tow truck?
Richard died in a motorcycle accident that was at no fault of his own.  We lost a good friend and good member of this board.  Though Rich may be gone, his legacy will live on here.

Can't you do a title search?  Find out who owned it and give them a call...tell them the landlord has a bill for the storage for $bazillion unless it gets moved...if he transfers the title to you you'll take care of it.

I suspect that Phaedrus might be that proverbial "friend with a tow truck".

3000 miles too far east.

Yeah, a friend of mine's dad has a tow truck/flat bed company.

Anyways, if something just sort of "happens" to the bike, RVertigo would be a likely suspect if he went the shady route.  :nono: Since he was the one going around asking about it.

Yeah, a friend of mine's dad has a tow truck/flat bed company.
So...does that make you the "masked hoodlum"?  :)

I still go for the idea of tracking down the last owner via DMV if possible and scaring them into giving it to you so they don't have to pay the storage fee.

In reality, I doubt anyone would just leave a perfectly good bike for no reason. Perhaps the original owner died, or the bike itself doesn't even work at all. But then again, if it doesn't, why keep it covered up? I suspect something odd; no one leaves a good bike behind. They would sell it, hell even give it away, something. Since it has been sitting there since like FOREVER..it was probably in pretty good shape when it was last moved.

And since a motorcycle is a pretty high value item, I would have thought family or friends of the person would have claimed it by now, or the person would have come back for it.

Maybe someone stole it and hide it there, then got scared out of the area and forgot about it, or got caught and hasnt come back for it yet..

edit: haha, maybe you should run a carfax or something on the vin. ... you can run that kind of thing on bikes, cant you?

Call the DMV and tell them that you're thinking about buying it. Ask 'em if the title is clear and how much is owed in fees. ;)

ahem.

RVertigo

I thought about trying to find the owner and seeing if they'd gift it... or sell it cheap...

But...  I can't fix the damn thing anyway.  I don't want to make money on it, I just wanted to see it riding down the street under a happy butt...

The Apartment manager has no clue who owned it...  So, the DMV would have to get the info...  Then the person that owned it would actually have to care to transfer title...  And that would be after requesting a lost title replacement, etc. etc.  That's all assuming the old owner is still alive and can be found...  And that the bike wasn't stolen and ditched.

This state is totally in bed with tow companies...  It's just wrong.
