Well before yall say anthing, I already searched and found some info.

I am wanting to get a replacement air filter that will last forever (K&N or UNI), and I DON"T want to rejet. And for the last reason I think I might go with K&N.

I read that there were some minor problems with UNIs and some falling apart and I know a handfull of people have UNIs (Davipu, V8Pinto, ktrim, werase643, scratch, cozy, michael, tdan553527...)
Question: Do you HAVE to rejet if you get a foam filter like UNI??
If So, then I will definately get a K&N, one that I can drop in and ride.

And on a side note.....Why doesn't any search results come up with "K&N" in the field, but a bunch come when I put the part #:SU-5589 in. (Yes, I did put "search all terms")

the uni's are crap, don't waste your time or money.,   just get eh K&N drop in and you won't have to rejet as it comes witha restrictor

My guess is the database backing the forum doesn't like to run searches on terms smaller than four letters.  MySQL has this limitation, and that's almost certainly what's running this thing.

I had a uni as well, with no problems after a yearish. The current owner, as far as I know, as also had no problems.

davipu

well i bought one and it lasted less than 4000 miles before it literaly fell apart.

I've had a UNI in for about 7K, with no problems whatsoever...and it's cheaper than K&N.... :thumb:

Uni-filters have their place...not on any of my bikes, though.  They're not very suited for sucking in high amounts of debris and, if impropperly cared for, they will literally disintegrate.

K&N is a superior product, and it's been proven time after time after time.  They flow better, they filter better and they last longer.

However, they both suck compared to Apex'i's products...that's a company I'd put my money into any time.

V8Pinto

Yeah the end fell off my Uni and the rattling almost freaked me out into a top end rebuild until I found out what was going on.....

If you don't want to rejet, I would run the drop in K&N with restrictor.

can't speak to the rejet, as I have a V&H pipe on the bike which it's rejeted for, but I've had Zero problems with this filter...NOTE, I am in Southern Cali, so the weather out here is fairly consistently nice, so I'm not dealing with a lot of elements-water, etc, getting up in the bike.

The K&N drop-in with the restrictor is a good replacement for the stock filter. It's washable and easy to maintain and lasts quite a while. Since it has a restrictor in it there is no need for a rejet, which is quite beneficial.

I did not have to rejet. But, I did rejet to srinath standard (40 pilot, 125 mains, shimmed needle, 2.75 turns).

K+N offers a 1 million mile warrenty on all their filters.

Incidently, I have a peterbilt come in here every now and then who's downed 1.6 of those warrenties...
