10 minutes? Seems like barely enough time to get the bike warmed up.

I just put 100 miles on mine after a morning oil/filter change. 65 degrees out....in January....

I didn't want to put too many miles on her.

There's still a lot of sand and salt on the roads, and I didn't want to lowside.  Also, the bike had 3996 miles on it.  I'm due for the 4K mile checkup.  Because I have the Suzuki additional factory warranty, I didn't want to take a chance and void the warranty, cause if I was out any longer, I wouldn't come back till next week.

lmfao! i took mine out for a 10 minute ride yesterday 1/12/05 during my lunch break from work. & I thought that I had the biggest grin in MA. By the way, where in MA are you? I live in Marshfield (south of boston), & ride an 04 500F. I've got about maybe 5000 miles? i dunno exactly. I do the maitenance my self, just installed two K&N cones on the carbs (& boy does it sound mean!), and am planning to rejet next, because I am running waaaaay too lean now. lemme know if u need help w/ maitenance (save u some serious $$$) or if U wanna ride sometime next season. I'll be around... -Joel

I'm in Chicopee, MA (Western MA next to Springfield).  I've got an '04f as well (blue), and I'm looking into getting the K&N filter...  Is this the only mod or do you have an exhaust too?

the only engine mod so far. I've also removed the center stand & the passenger handlebar from the tail, trimmed & moved the license plate mount, so there really is no visible plastic anymore; the license plate screws on and sits right under the tail light (this was the most time-consuming but looks great!). the K&N filters are absolutly great, the bike sounds awesome and they were a sinch to install. the stock air box just unbolts and wiggles right out; you don'thave to remove the tank or anything, just make sure it's not gonna slam down on your hand! the filter size is 2 1/4 inches for the opening, any I got two small cones that fit right in there next to each other perfectly; instead of the single unit. the ONLY thing that might get confusing is the hose routing. I found this helpful: http://www.gstwin.com/images/how_to/fuel%20hose/www_gs500_de_HoseRouting.jpg and there's an explanation of fuel hose routing in the how-to section from the gstwin homepage.
jan 12 was the first chance I've had to take my bike out since I installed them and I was really impressed. not just the sound improvement, but power as well. there was a definite notice in acceleration and the response of the power from rolling on the throttle. this was most noticible in low gears at low rpms, but that's because I now have to rejet badly. I would give it gas at higher speeds and the engine would still show good response, but it was easy to feel (and hear) that it was starving for more fuel in the mixture.
so rejetting is the next step, i'm gonna pick up a factory jet kit sometime soon. There's also a few definite things on my mind and many more I'm thinking about. exhaust is a biggie, but I really want a real track only system, definitly not just a slip on; that seems like a waste. If I can find one with a baffle insert for street use I'll jump all over it; otherwise I'm still looking for a good one and i'm not really concerned about street legality (there I said it!). Also, looking at getting some clip-on bars, redoing my front and rear suspension (new springs), and as soon as my stock tires go I'm gonna get some stickier 150/60/17s on the rear and a new front. so much to do, so little time!
