Hi Matt I'll be going on the ride on the 28th (as long as nothing else comes up) which reminds me I'll have to change my oil before then. But I should be there I've got some friends going as well so should be a good ride so see you there.
Brembo I know what you mean with groups I was like that at first but after a couple of group rides it becomes no problem the hardest thing is actually trying to ride at the speed limit (limits are for cars) and not just take off but i notice theres about 20 in every group like me so I just wait for the ride home hold my licenece in the air and ask "who wants it?". :thumb:
P.S Brembo whats your clutch doing?

P.S Brembo whats your clutch doing?

It's playing funny buggers again. Well not again, still. Ever since the fibre plates on it were changed last year it's never felt right, and riding a few hundred km in city traffic over the past 4 days I've finally cracked the shits with it.

When it's cold the clutch picks up around 1/5 - 1/4 pull on the lever, but whenthe engines hot and been running for a while, the clutch picks up at just over 1/2 pull on the lever. Riding home in the rain from Mt White yesterday it was clunky, hitting false neutrals and I stalled it several times. There's just no consistency there which is shitting me. Other than that the bikes running great  :icon_confused:

Was planning on taggin along with a mate up the coast along Thunderbolts way and the Oxley Hwy, but with rain probable, and the clutch shitting me this much no trip for me just yet. Maybe after TAFE finishes mid year, but then it'll be cold... bah

Just a thought were the clutch plates genuine suzuki or aftermarket? I have noticed that suzuki sells heavier clutch springs if the shop put in your old ones they may not be up to the job or it may be an oil problem that the plates dont like the oil youre running.
Hope thats a bit help let me know how you go  :thumb:

howdy fellas,
well I took the gs out for a track day at phillip island on monday.  :thumb:
it was the most insane, awesome, crazy thing i have ever done it my life.(got MARRIED A WEEK BEFORE, BUT THAT DIDN'T COMPARE, JUST DON'T TELL THE MISSUS THAT !)
ok, i could only push it to round 180-190ks down the straight so all the inline fours where wizzing past. but i carried at least 180 into turn 1 and you would pass all the "sportsbike riders" in the first turn or two !
i never thought i would experience such full on two wheel drift on the gs ! i had just put a new set of dunlop gt501 tyres on before the day and they are totally shredded !!!
coming throught the right hand kink at the hayshed around 160-170 holding that up over lukey heights (with two wheel slides) hard on the brakes into mg.....oh what a buzz. i dont know how to go back to riding on normal roads now. apparently we have new racing class here (victoria) which is for parrallel twins, so i'm going to build myself a racing frame and swing arm, mod it up and start racing.
as I saw at the island the big bikes only have the advantage on the straights. i was taking vtr 1000s' and r1s' around the outside through nearly every corner ! man i tell you guys if you have a chance to do a ride day, do it. you wont regret it !
its quite funny seeing the look on the big bike riders faces when a little commuter bike nails them at a race track !
got a few good snaps if anyone is interested. was going to post them but i can't seem to find the gallery at the moment.

The fibre plates were aftermarket, and the old metal plates were kept in there. Few people said the metal ones might need a clean down or something  :dunno_white: The springs were replaced (I have the old fibre plates and springs here in a bag). Oil wise it's running Motul 3000+ 4t 10W40 atm, next lot that goes in will probably be Motul 5100 or the equivalent Silokene type.

Anywho, not in a good frame of mind to go riding, 2 people I've ridden with a have passed away in the last 3 weeks. Their funerals/wakes were over the weekend so riding isn't too high a priority atm

Yeah ride days are the bomb and youve done the best track I'm hoping to get down to the island for the GP this year probably camp down there and hope to do the ride day after the GP but i know what you mean about the sports bikes in corners when I was at Oran park I lapped an R1 three times in one session but to be fair the girl riding it was so slow that I probably could have beat her on my push bike but just as I was feeling good about that and chasing down a bloke on an R6 and getting passed him on the last lap I was taken by a bloke on a bucket racer on the last bend I think it was an MX100 but he was a racer so probably would have beat me on a peewee50.
You mentioned the new race class for the twins any more info or a web link for it i hope something like that will happen here because I really like the idea of a GSXR head on a gs500 motor and all the other stuff that the US racers do. :thumb:
Brembo sorry to hear about you mates never a good thing to hear  hope you and there families are ok and I pass on my respects to them

Brembo, sorry to hear about your friends. my deepest sympathies.

Lukewarm, haven't got any more info on race class yet. I was told about it last time i was working at the bike shop.
as soon as i find out any more info i will let you know.
Sounds like you know exactly what i mean about the big bike riders.
There was a guy there on a supermono (yamaha tz 96 frame and fairings, 98 yamaha tt600 single motor) he was the man !
he was dropping it into turn one at 210k's an hour and he minced up everyone in front of him on the track.
there was this guy on an sv 1000, i don't know what he had done to it but it was right up the arse of some of the inline fours as they where powering down the straight !!!
he only had the tiny fairing that comes up of the light and just covers the clocks and i am sure he was getting at least 230-240k's down the straight, awesome !!!
i won't ever let anyone cast doubt on the gs and its potential on a track !!! :icon_twisted:

  spirit33,
Here is a free site you can post your pics I use it a lot  http://imageshack.us/

Lukewarm,

here is what we are doing for the 28th  , if the weather is not good I would say I won't be going.

Route:
Up Macquarie Pass and onwards to Marulan to meet the main group of Sydney riders @ 10:30 where we will joing up to ride to the main meet point.

Home will definitely be via the Kings Highway and depending on the time and fitness levels we will try to incorporate other coastal fun roads (ie. Kangaroo Valley and down the Pass etc).

Sorry but the change in route has been decided on to ensure that we can be in Canberra by the 1:00pm main ride to Parliament House.

Brembo,
I very sorry to hear about your friend Please Exp my  deepest sympathies

alll the best matt:) your friend

pfb

Hi guys,
I've been off line for a while, with Christmas, New Year, etc... I'm sure you know how it goes. Anyway, I sold my GS just before Christmas to make room in the garage for a beautiful silver 2003 SV1000S. That means I now have 2 service manuals for the GS500, which I will never need. I have the Haynes and Clymer manuals, both are pretty much brand new, and one or both could easily be yours. Feel free to make me an offer, and we'll arrange a way to meet and swap books for cash.
Cheers,
Paul.

When I got my GS the guy threw in a Clymer manual so I'm right  :thumb:

Spirit33; pretty funny to see the rock hard Arrowmax's balled up (even a little), well done but there's still a little left on the edges  Is the rear a 130 or 140? I've reached the edges on my 140, but when I had a 130 I hit the left foot peg, and the exhaust so the edge of the tyre was but a dream.

I've been spending too much time drooling over Supermotos, someone donate $15k to the 'brembo wants an SM fund' so I can do up a DRZ400SM :o I think I need a job or TAFE to start so I have less free time  :cookoo: :cookoo:

I must be a kitty cat because the last 1mm of tyre I can't seem to reach no matter who I drill up the inside or outside might just be the bt45 or I am a kitty cat  :thumb:

spirit33

Brembo; its the 130 rear. No matter how far over i get the thing I can't reach the edge. I've scraped the centre stand first !
I must say but I was getting my arse of the seat alot and counter weighting on the opposite footpeg for stability. The island is a pretty fast track. Had a big head wind so was only getting 180k's down the straight. But was getting close to that also on the approach to honda corner and past the hayshed and over lukey heights. I must say that the GS performed much much better on the track than I thought she would. Quite stable through fast sweepers i.e. dropping it into turn one at 180 and she was smooth. I didn't have any scary moments other than trying to outbreak an R1 who had forgot to break himself  :cookoo: (into the gravel but she stayed upright)

I'd also like to start the "donate because Paul wants a supermono" I saw a guy with a TZ250 96 model race frame and it had a yamaha TT600 98 motor in it !It had thousands spent on it ! it was turning into turn one at 210k's and it sounded wicked  :thumb:

well better get back to work now I suppose
