i posted awhile back about a 500 that a freind brought over  for me to look at.
the mtr wouldnt make a complete revolution.
tried roll startin, etc ..nothin woulnt buge.
ive removed the engine from the frame, to work on the mtr easier.
removed the head an found that one of the exhaust valves had dropped an the " seat" behind it had gone to pieces..
found all that on top of the piston..doesent appear to be much damage, few nicks in the dome of the head.
the question here is do they make a new saet to press into the head or would it be better to find another one?
any help will be greatly apprecited.
also need to find the best place to buy  all the top end gaskets ,etc well need when we put it all back together

Hello HWC,
I think you would get more replies by changing the subject listing of your message a little bit.  The "GSX" is a 4 valve per cylinder design and doesn't exist for the 500E.

Lots of us have disassembled motors - some have even reassembled them!

You can have valve seats installed but that sort of repair is probably going to require a complete valve job too.  Expensive.  Unless you are sort of "into" motors, I would just buy a complete head off of here or ebay - swap it and go.

My bike had a broken valve seat when i bought it too, cept the bike was a 93 and literally brand new and it prolly still would have been under warranty if they had taken it to get it fixed.....getting the valve seat is pretty much unrealistic try and get a whole head, thats what I ended up doing (Thanks Bob!)

ya trying to get the valve to re-seat it's self is like winning the lottery....sometimes 5 digits match up but never the 6th  that's why I don't win....but N-E ways ya cyl. heads can be found on-line in pretty decent conditions for next to nothing. Just make sure to fit the head with new hardware and gasket and tighten the bolts in proper sequence with the correct tourque specification. FYI all the specs and sequences are listed in the handy manuals

if your considering to keep the GSer around for awhile you might want to fork out like $50 for a "used" head [check e-bay] then get a machine shop to mill out the bottom and polish the ports. about $150 project that yields a like new cyl. head, more power, and it's DONE right the first time...Noting more fustrating than having to dissassemble the top-end, replace the parts, re-assemble, find-out it's wrong,,,dissassemble again....then perform what you should have done in the first place

people part out bikes from time to time. best bet is prolly to wait if you want a good price (this board usually has good deals).
