Tips for removing mixture screw cap?

Thanks for putting up with all my newbie questions.  This board has been a huge help so far   I tried searching for information about this but couldn't find anything useful.

For you guys who have removed the factory caps over the mixture screws can you offer any tips?  I don't want to damage the tube or screw so I'm a little wary of just going at it with the cordless drill.  How thick are the caps?  Are they threaded, or just pressed in?

Thanks again,

The caps are really thin; all you need to do is imagine drilling through a small piece of beer can, and you'll know how to do this. The heads of the mixture screws are less than 1/4" below the caps, so stop drilling as soon as you've created a hole, then pry the cap out with a self-tapping screw or anything else you can get into the hole. Once you do one screw, you'll be an expert, and won't want to stop drilling...

Each cap is pressed in, not threaded, so you just have to convince it to come out after the hole is drilled. It's so easy to do your dog could probably manage it while you drink beer and laugh at him for not having opposable thumbs.

The caps are maybe 2mm thick.  I used the smallest drill bit I could find, and then used the smallest E-z-out to spin/pry it out.  I used to use a really thin allen wrench to pull it out; it really has to come straight up and out; a miniature dent puller would be really nice.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

Thanks for asking this question!  I've pulled my carbs before, but hesitated to mess with the brass plugs for just this reason.  I didn't want to over drill or otherwise damage my carb.

OK, scratch, what's the big idea? Seems like one of us WASN'T drunk when they responded to this... but thanks for clarifying what I was trying to say; I could hardly see the keyboard last night, which is probably obvious:

Clearly, I meant to type, "Once you do one CAP, you'll be an expert..."

I THOUGHT I was sober enough to make sense... guess not.

Thanks again...

Just replying to say that the small hole + EZ out method worked beautifully.  I actually scuffed up the head of the mixture screw on one of the carbs when I accidently drilled too far but no harm done.
