Hello,

I am considering putting Bar End Mirrors on my GS500E and am curious if:

1) Anyone has installed Bar End Mirrors before?
2) Is it a pain in the butt to remove the current Bar Ends?
3) Advice/Tips on how to remove them?
4) Anything special I may need to do when installed the mirrors?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Those both have to do with bar end mirrors. The other option I see a lot are SV mirrors, as seen in:

I have bare end mirrors on mine. I didn't install them myself (previous owner did), so I can't give you any practical advice other than that I like 'em a lot. My bro comeneted that he could see way better with them than the stock on his F4i. I think they inprove the look of the gs

I have bar ends and love 'em: 3rd eye bar end mirrors.  They vibrate less than stock and, although out of the direct line of site, work great.  And I agree with Thor about the improvement to the GS' looks. 

Installation was a breeze (though I had to trim the plugs a bit).  Not sure about removing bar ends, as mine didn't have any, but I can't imagine it's all that difficult.  I'll try to get a pic or two in the next couple of days.

The Lockhart Phillips look nice but seem pretty expensive to me.  Are there cheaper ones out there?

With the lockhart ones do you have to get rid of the barends?

DO NOT BUY EMGO MIRRORS!  These are sold cheap on ebay.  They are crappy.  The optics are bad (mirrors are concave and uneven), the mounting hardware sucks, and they don't even come close to staying in place when you adjust them. 

That being said, they're still better than the stock mirrorrs, as I can see more than my arms.  However, often I see the sky when they vibrate out of position.  Not really useful when you need to see behind you at a stop.  Get some good quality mirrors.  Cheap mirrors are cheap for a reason.

I have napoleon bar-ends, I love them you can see way better behind you and they look better. you will need to get new bars if you have a older GS that doesnt have hollow bars, but thats like $13 and you can get a more aggressive stance if you want.

I put several types of bar ends on my gs. Napoleons first but didnt like them-had them below the bars (for looks of course) and they'd hit the frame at full lock, and it was super hard to actually use them. Removed them quickly.

Then I used 2 different types of bicycle mirrors. You can see my site for various pictures of them. First up was one I cant remember (link at work), but it had a bracket that fit between the barend and the handlebar. Plastic peice that connected the mirror to the bracket was flimsy and broke eventually with all the bike's vibration. The mirror itself didnt vibrate at all though. Then the 3rd eye one and that was good but it sat even lower, and I dont care what anyone says the stock mirror location is perfect from a functionality POV, because they were basically at eye level and using the bar ends wasnt nearly as easy.

Also, in CA we lanesplit so I ended up wanting to make the bike as narrow as possible. Sometimes now when I split on my RR I foldl up one mirror inward to make less width. I have a handful of links for various bar ends mirrors, rangeing from the CRG billit aluminum mirrors (which ROCK, but cost $60) to chimivee's $2 solution-aluminum bracket from hardware store and a 1" round convex blindspot mirror adhered to the bracket. small, unobtrusive, legal.

Where are these links?  I checked your site, and google agrees with me that there's only one mention of mirrors: on the front page.  I'm interested in the $2 option, so I'd like to see how it was done.

Somewhere I found out that they are just homemade brackets with cheap convex mirrors on them. 

From what I understand, they were made with an aluminum L bracket, available at your local hardware store, and a 1" convex blindspot mirror, probably available at an auto parts store.  I have yet to find any pictures (including from chimivee).
