does anyone know where I can get some aftermarket heel guards made specifically for the GS? do they even exist for the GS, or would I have to modify a pair to fit? any info would be great!  :icon_mrgreen:

yea I found those when I ran a search in the forum... they're pretty cheesey. anyone know of anything else- maybe a pair that can just be modified a bit if needed. hopefully something lighter. the stock ones are HEAVY.

Do you want heel guards or REARSETS? The heel guards on our bikes are light as hell, as they are just cheep aluminum (or steel, I forget. Either way they are light as hell). The REARSETS on the other hand, are fairly heavy, as a rugged piece of hardware should be sometimes.

I'm talking about the heel guard; not rearsets. I'd Like to get all new rearsets, but GS specific are just too expensive & the CBR ones sound like too much of a hassle. the heel guards themselves are fairly heavy considering their size. there's the carbon fiber look to redeuce weight, or I might just fashion my own out of some strong plastics from work that wont bend under stress (i've already tested it!  :icon_mrgreen:). the stuff from my work is probably about 1/5 of the weight of the stock heel guard. I was looking for an easy way out, but I guess I'll have to get a bit creative...

Too heavy? Sorry, but that's crazy. Together, they weigh less than half a pound!

The stock ones are pretty heavy for what they do.  I am planning to make some carbon fiber copies when I get home that weight effectively nothing.
