Ok first, I'm mostly intact, the bike is entirely so. (It just needs mirror tightened and clutch lever rotated up a bit.)

Left turn on to the freeway, from a red light. Suddenly the rear tire slid out from underneath me and the world went from   |  to   _   (hey, that's supposed to be pointing up!) Not a good thing.

A f%$king cab driver just went right through the intersection while I'm lying there trying to figure out wtf, and rolling around in pain. I Got the company and I'll be yelling at them for some time to come, f%$king assholes.

All of the sudden more people than I can count just appeared, I don't even know their names, they were great though. They asked the standard, "Are you OK?" To which I replied, "I don't know." Cause I'm just like, "Wtf just happened?" And Then I yell out, "Get my bike off the road!" Two guys went over, picked it up and brought it to me on the side of the road, I turned off the petcock right away and killed the ignition. (Bike was not running.)

Anyways back to me. I'm totally A & O times 4. (That basically means that I'm totally aware and coherent) And this dude comes yelling (as I'm standing up) "DON'T MOVE HIM!" He was just trying to be a good guy, a little weird, but nice. I couldn't stand on my left foot, thought I broke it. Some lady helped me stand up, and another guy got my left side. Before I knew, WTF the cops were there and right behind them an ambulance. They checked me out, and since I have no insurance (just started new job) I declined the hospital. (I wasn't broken anyways.)

I see what I did wrong, my head was somewhere else while I was riding. Last time that happens.

Motorcycle cop who showed up on scene talked me through what happened and exactly where I lost it, patted me on the back and said, "Riding's a wonderful thing, don't let this scare ya off. I've done it a few times myself." Great guy. Exactly what I needed to hear.

A friend followed me home (yes I rode, no shifting was not easy.) and then cleaned out my wounds and dressed them. I called her a lot of bad names and such cause that wound cleaning stuff hurts like HELL!

Injuries are as follows:
Sprained left ankle.
Bad ass road rash below left knee.
Cut up left heel

Bike has very little road rash, my leg took most of it.

I was wearing my jacket otherwise there would be a whole bunch of left shoulder/side/arm stuff in there.

Sorry about the long post, just finished dressing the wounds and such, still freaked out.

thats all good just under the shock of the fact it happened i know how it feels.... only rolled a car and stuff so yeah...... glad your ok you still got lucky after all could of been worst.... well hopefully youll get back on her

I had two incidents, none very serious.
Thought me one thing, can't day dream on the bike.
Total focus must be on riding and what is up ahead.

You need to get some riding pants to go with that jacket you have, probally would have saved your the roadrash you got on your knee.  I noticed you said you just started a new job maybe if you can save up some money and invest in some.  Also invest in some boots, gear can be replaced but you cannot.
Last thing if your helmet hit the ground you might want to replace it.  Helmets are designed for 1 inpact then they need to be replaced.  A helmet falling from your mirror hitting the ground is enough force to compromise the integretty ( spelling? ) of your helmet.

Glad you're OK.  I have really gotten paranoid about wearing gear every time I ride.  I wear chaps to work in addition to my jacket, since I can wear them over slacks.  My students and wife think the chaps are amusing (insert multiple "Village People" jokes here), but they protect my legs.  Some people even keep dress shoes and slacks at work, and ride with riding pants and boots.  I haven't gone that far yet, but probably should.

Ya know, this IS the conventional wisdom, but I can't see how.  The expanded polystyrene (styrofoam) certainly wouldn't be compressed by such a drop (without your head in it).  The only possibility would be if the fiberglass were impacted hard enough to partially delaminate.  If you have a polycarbonate shell helmet, even that won't happen.  I am not an engineer, but I'd love to hear the mechanics behind how a drop from four feet could affect the integrity of the protection.  I have dropped mine off the mirror and not thought twice about wearing it again.

On the other hand, a helmet should be replaced if you have gone down wearing it and your head hit the ground.  The compression of the styrofoam might not be visible, but it undoubtedly happened.

that's actually pretty cool.

Glad you're not worse off. That stuff will heal in no time. Take care of yourself-rest. Yes, you do need more gear, like pants and boots, which would have prevented most if not all of your injuries. Also try to make this a learning tool-were you aware enough of the road conditions, that perhaps you missed a patch of oil or coolant on the ground...I dont know. Anyway, glad you're okay. Cleaning out rash is a b!tch.

this is the third person this week on this board that has crashed.....I think everyone needs to take a breather and really pay attention to themselves the next couple of weeks so we can try and head off a really bad summer....

Scary man, but glad you're okay.     I agree, get some riding pants (overpants have worked great for me so far, although I haven't crash-tested them) and boots that cover your ankle.  Ride safely! 

Sorry to hear, but I'm glad your ok. What jacket and helmet were you wearing? How did all of the gear hold up?

That jacket, held up incredibly well only some scratches on the little metal thingy.. Never talking shaZam! about icon gear again.

I agree if I had been wearing riding pants and sturdy boots I probably would have been uninjured.

What was it in the road that got me? Glass from a previous accident, I walked over, put my foot on it and slid it side to side, like freaking god blessed marbles.

Anyways, glad you are ok. This almost happened to me too several times. Too much throttle on a metal manhole cover.

Yeah I had just turned it to prime to ride the freeway and I turned it to on so that the fuel flow was stopped.

GOOD GOD, every bodies gonna see you with that bright f(*king jacket, jesus.

Every body showed up to help probably because they wanted to know why a SMURF was riding a motorcycle in the first place!~

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who did that!! (Brand new helmet... dammit.. I also have scratches from where the garage door came down on my head... "WTF was THAT?" )
