It's a lot easier to take a joke when it's, you know, funny.

Come on guys..this shaZam! is so inappropriate right now... :icon_rolleyes: can we just answer the kids questions?

Matty u wanna look at mods? try the photogallery, see whats out there, if u like something PM the owner of the pic/who evers bike it is or ask what the mod is.

This is my bike with custom paint and exhaust everyone wants to make their bike their own. Some mods are expensive though, keep that in mind.

Hey, Alpha!  How many horse power did you pick up by adding the '05 body work?  Or did that just help with handling?
Ouch.

i agree with Jake D, Pandy, and blue05twin on this one.  :thumb:

You know what Matty, have fun modding your bike.  I really dont care if you mod it or not.  Whatever floats your boat... I really dont care, in fact I really dont care about anything anymore.  So have fun and be safe.

Matty B 500

Pablo's site has how-tos on several common or not so common mods.  Most people have chopped the rear fender and replaced the turn signals.  You can put on the flyscreen from either a Ductati Monster or a Buell Blast for a more subtle windscreen look.  There are couple solo tails you can put on, and people seem to like that.  Anyway, Pablo's site has pictures, so take a minute to look around there.

Get what?  It's not a joke.  You called something ghey, and then had a picture of Christopher Lowell.  How's that a joke?  Where's the funny?

I think some of these are enlightening, but here's the summary of how I feel (and how this guy feels too, I'd imagine)

Looks like all you want to do is look good and make noise. You obviously have no interest in learning how to ride and are just riding a motorcycle to look "cool".

Quote from: Cal Amari on April 17, 2006, 04:19:45 AM
Actually, Alpha and AJ were well ahead of me... as has been mentioned in a previous thread, squidly nick claims to ride a motorcycle, but he does it for all the wrong reasons. He has no interest in doing anything that isn't related to making an ass of himself at every opportunity; he only wants to MAKE NOISE, and show off for the other three year-olds who hang out down by the sandbox. He'll cripple or kill himself, and people will cry and think he wasted his life, but it will only be Darwinism triumphing again. Of course, OUR insurance rates will go up, though squidly nick won't have to worry about that from the comfort of his wheelchair, iron lung, or coffin, whichever is his NEXT "ride", AFTER he RUINS a perfectly good motorcycle.

The thing is, I get the feeling that squidly nick is actually fourteen years old, and only pretends he has a motorcycle... Either that, or he's suffering from the effects of one or more of the following:

1. An inadequate personality

2. Undescended testicles

I keep hoping that people like him either wise up soon, or die quickly; since they have no interest in actually learning how to RIDE a motorcycle, they are hazards to themselves and everyone around them. If they wise up, the motorcycling community as a whole benefits; if they don't, there is a severe shortage of organ donors in this country, and squids help to ease the suffering of another family through the organ donations their next of kin make. If squids serve no real purpose in life, they should at least be useful in death. Countless thousands are waiting for kidneys, livers, hearts... a good number of human organs are transplantable, and squids can help ease the shortage.

Come to think of it, maybe my perspective on this is all wrong; maybe I should encourage squidly behavior... a squid might donate an organ that saves my life, or the life of someone dear to me... Leukemia and heart disease run in my family; no matter how obnoxious they are, every squid has bone marrow and a heart that could help someone else... looks like I've got some thinking to do... Let's see... Lose a squid, save someone who deserves to live... I'm beginning to think there is a place in this world for squids after all... As long as they don't ruin any transplantable organs when they stuff themselves under a bus, they just might be able to make themselves useful to society after all...

Well, I'm going to have another beer, and give this some more thought; though I've always been inclined to discourage squidly behavior, I might have to reconsider this from a new perspective... maybe if all squids carried signed organ donor cards, I could see this in a different light... they tend to be relatively healthy young males right up until the moment of impact... Their brains aren't worth a shaZam!, but brains can't be transplanted anyway... time to do some more pondering...

And some of my thoughts (rants) on the subject:

what are some of the nicest exhaust out their? And which ones are the loudest?

Why do you think you have to have the loudest pipe? Is this some sort of complex or something? Do you feel that's the only way you can get noticed, by having a big fart pipe on your bike? Learn to ride. People will notice you for that more than your toot toot exhaust.

Toot toot.

I'm sorry, but if I see one more damn n00b exhaust post, I'm going to bust a proverbial cap in someone's ass.

People should know that AJ was just joking, come on look at her sig.  Or better yet look at her response's to Matty B's post on wanting to trade in his bike, she joked around but then gave him some good advice.   My problem / problems are with this post.  For all my previously stated reasons.

Damn people just because people want to make their bike look different or sound different doen't mean they are not interested in learning how to ride.  Or that we should wish uppon  them bodily harm.  Unless you have a 1 of a kind bike I'm sure that somewhere in this world someone has the same bike that you ride now.  Whats wrong with changeing the way it looks?  Or Sounds?  Making it a little bit different so it stands out a little.  Hell how many of us have the stock exhaust on our bikes?  I guess sense there is no real performance gains then we must all be squids for changing them out.  Guy wants a lounder bike if thats what he wants then go for it.

What gives us ( us being the members on this board ) the right to judge people, their bikes and riding style.   Not everyone is the same.  Some people like cruising others like taking curves faster than we should, is it written somewhere that if you like cruising you have to have a cruiser or that if you like the twisties then you have to ride sport bike?  And if you want loud exhaust you must have a harley?

I guess everytime someone does a mod I don't like I should start calling them squids or squidly and then go on to say that when they die riding their bike they won't take out a family and only kill themselfs +1 darwinism

There's a difference. For some people it's all about bling. Bling is not what the GS is about, IMO. The GS is about motorcycling, pure and simple; it is a simple bike that allows us to learn. Honestly, if you're riding just to look cool, the GS isn't where it's at.

Also, I just posted what another guy said about a similar thing. That wasn't my full all out opinion. There was some stuff in there I agreed with and some other stuff I was indifferent about. So kindly just shove it. If you noted, the big gigantic quote WAS NOT ME, but someone else who had an opinion on the subject. It was used to give Matty something to think about in terms of his modifications. Personally, I think he needs to replace the suspension first and foremost because the GSes stock suspension is shaZam!.

The '05 bodywork started out as replacement parts when I banged up my tank in a lowside at the track.

Not all cosmetic mods are all about the bling bling either.

Just as not all cosmetic mods are about bling-bling, not all bling-bling comes at the expense of ridership, though.  There's no reason that Matt can't bling up his bike without reducing the "pure motorcycling" experience (although I agree shocks sohuld be his first concern).

And just like the GS is about the pure act of motorcycling to you, it doesn't have to be like that for everyone.  The kid's 16, it was probably largely about cost.  Face it, the bike's cheap.

I guess mostly my opinion is we should all try to cut people more slack.  Unless a poster actually doing something dangerous, there's no real reason to chime in on a thread like this if you're against whatever someone wants to do.  It just adds to the tension and meanness of the board.  I mean, we all ride a bike that's looked down on by a lot of riders.  And we don't want people on Harley's or blinged out 'Busas or whatever looking down on us, so we should do our best to not look down on others.

Anyway.  That's just my view of the subject.

i think the operative word/letters here are IMO. Doing aesthetic mods to the GS500 doesn't mean you're just riding to look cool. There are only a few purists here who won't touch anything unless it increases performance or comfort, but we all know that number is very small. How many of us chopped our fenders? We all probably have dirtier tails and sacrificed a little rear-reflection to do it. But, it's still pretty ubiquitous nonetheless.

The truth is, he bought a GS. And i'd be willing to bet that it had more to do with it being a good and safe bike to learn on, than being a bike to bling out or be a squid on. C'mon, we all know what the aftermarket for the GS is like. He's 16. He bought a GS. He's already showing more discernment than most of us probably did at his age. It's one thing to pass judgment on a person's taste (why do you think the word "ghey" is so popular around here?), but passing judgment on a person because of their taste is another story. And there is hardly ever an excuse for wishing any sort of harm on someone for such differences. We've all done squidly things (except maybe Kerry  ), but that doesn't mean someone else deserves our kidneys, or we should have a "proverbial cap busted in our ass."
