I swear I did a search but couldn't find it.......

What is the name for that thing I see attached to the rear wheel of bikes in all those pics? you know the thing I mean? and where can I get one? (off line). My bike is minus a center stand and that seems a good method to center and hold the bike while I work on it.

thanks for the info!

a motorcycle stand?  You can probably get one from your nearest motorcycle dealer if you don't want to get one online.

its a rear stand. two types. one uses spools that thread into the swingarm (most modern sprotbikes have a place to install them already) or one supports the swingarm with little flat pads. The stands can be purchased online for cheap. I think I got my redline stand for $80. redlinestands.com I think. There's the Handy stands too. Good alternative for a centerstand if your bike doesnt have the centerstand on it (they come stock with it but could have been removed by PO).

cool!

thanks, I want to get the bike onto it tonight so i can get to work. so I guess its a trip to the dealer for me....

can you tell me a little more about the handy stand? I did a google search and read some good reviews. people seem to like it. is that a stock item at a dealership? or is it worth waiting for it to be shipped to me?

I dont think its a brand that is readily available at the dealer or most independent shops. Most shops dont stock this stuff. best prices are going to be online. handy is inexpensive and alright for the money, but as a general rule the swingarm supporting stands are just a bit less stable, so spending a little more makes sense since the handy stands tend to be a little less stable than others-you get what you pay for. Should be alright, you just have to be careful when you use it-true for most stands anyway.

that cyclecat one is excessive-you can do one handed lifting, without balancing the bike with a regular stand. I do it. Powerstands, redline stands, Lockhart Phillips, lots of them-google and you will see....

yup, 225 is steep. I don't want to wait for shipping (can you tell I'm really excited to work on the bike?)

I'm headed to a couple of bike shops and the dealer to see what I can find.

thanks for the input!

Hmmm ok I'll have to find another one then.  Saw one at the show and it looked real easy to use the only other one's there were generic and didn't look to sturdy.  There is a dealer here that sells pit bull ( ? ), and a suzuki one.  Will go and check them out this weekend.

I don't want to spend 200+ but I also don't want to be like Joe so.... we'll see. I'm probably just going to purchase one tonight from the local dealer.

Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

Actually, I remember a thread (which I'm too lazy to search for) that you can slip in the center stand bolt/axle (skip the spring) for doing work, then when you're done, pull it out.  Seemed really elegant to me.

so I just went to the local shop and they sold me the display model for 80 bucks. Its working fine. Thanks for the input everyone! I don't have the center stand, the PO took it off and threw it away so I'm going to have to purchase one incase I ever have to do any work roadside away from my new rear wheel stand. :thumb:
