A week later and this lien is still not released.  Seller has not picked up his phone since Thursday, when he told me he would send me all the necessary paperwork.  I still do not have it.

Faxing HSBC today, but considering what I've read of their customer service and lien release policies, chances are I will not be riding this summer.

Well he said he has all the documentation.. I PMed him on ride-ny but he hasn't logged on there since the day he sold it to me.

All my gear just got here too, over the weekend, and I can't even use it.  I can't sell the bike because I don't have a CT title yet, and even if I did only dumbasses like me buy bikes with a lien on them.  HSBC has been of little help.

if you have his address, I would send him a nice little official sounding letter by registered mail saying something to the fact of 'fix this issue or i'm taking you to court Buddha Loves You' but a bit more professional than that of course.  the letter should be enough to scare the pants off him to get his ass into high gear about getting it resolved, so hopefully you would never have to actually go to court.

do you have a bill of sale on the bike?  some sort of hand writen contract that you purchased the bike from him?  depending on the laws in your area, you may be able to take him to small claims court without the need of a lawyer, and with some sort of bill of sale it's a sure win for you (maybe even the signed title would be fine).

I paid 2900.  The bill of sale he gave me is crap.  He didn't even sign it.. I didn't notice that til after he left.  It's just hand written, like two sentences.  I guess they don't have actual bills of sale in NY. 

All this crap just makes me want to ride less and less.  At this point I just sorta want my money back.

I talked to the Admin at Ride-NY about this. He's a good friend of mine.  Don't let it get down about riding. You should still be able to register the bike and ride it despite the lien. I know in NY, the lien only matters when it comes to insurance. Altephor can you PM the address listed on the title just to make sure I have the same one? It's cool if you don't want to.

PM sent.  I know I can register it, but if he's really screwing me and the lien isn't paid off, then I'm in real trouble. 

Zac suggested posting a PUBLIC message to him on Ride-NY telling him that he needs to get his butt moving. Public humilation is always good. Worst comes to worst theres always small claims court or like LimaXray said...at the very least a threatening letter. The public message on ride-ny wouldn't do much, because he hasn't logged into the site since July 1st.  I PMed one of his friends on there in hopes of contacting him, but his friend hasn't logged on since I sent him the message.  His last login date is the 6th.  I will try e-mailing him at that address.

And I don't think I can register until I have the release, because in CT if there's a lien the title goes to the Lienholder.  Rather not deal with THAT hassle.


I just received an e-mail from the seller, after I e-mailed him again today telling him that if he didn't contact me soon I may have to take legal action.  He replied saying that he didn't appreciate being threatened and that threatening him wasn't going to get him to do me any 'favors'.  I replied saying that if he just sent me what I need we wouldn't have a problem.

Did he reply that he was in fact goign to be sending you the documentation?

No.  He didn't.  Also, pastrana, I tried that number for his house.. I asked for him and they said he didn't live there and that they didn't have a phone number for him.

I'm getting fed up.



I just called back.  It was his dad that answered before and I spoke with him a little about getting it cleared up.  He said he has no contact number for his son, only e-mail or 'when he stops by', which made NO sense to me.  The title had that address on it.  He said he would speak to his son and ask him about it.. which essentially means.. I'm not going to help you at all.
