Changing out my ignition advance (THANKS BOB B!), I snapped the bolt that holds the IA in half.  What in the world do I do now? Drill it out or something?  Please offer input.

Thanks.
hello?.....is this thing on?

See if you can grip the stub that is left with pliers and screw it out.
Else you are in for some expense and some serious careful drilling.
Get left handed drill bits. I paid $10 for a 6 piece set and it was worth every penny. My carbs chewed up pilot jets came flying out, the float bowl screws etc etc all were 2 mins of drilling away from freedom. Use the smallest and drill into the bolt. The bike should be in neutral but dont do anything to stop the motor from turning...Fact is the motor should not turn even as you drill into the bolt. Once you feel you have drilled in a little into the bolt and not the crank...Put it in 6th gear and stomp on the rear brake and this time you can press in...just dont break off the drill in it. The left handed drill will drill into the bolt while attmeptiong to unscrew the thing. If you feel you have gone far enough into the bolt go up a drill size...soon you'd get the bolt out or be left with a bolt that it so thin it will crumble.
Cool.

If I may add one thing to Srinath's explaination:  Make sure you start your hole in the center of the broken bolt.  This is very important.  Use a very sharp pointed punch to start before you drill.  If the broken peice is below the end of the crank you may want to try drilling and using an easy-out.  When you replace, use a little blue lock tite and just snug up the bolt.

As Srinath has said: It can be done.  It takes patience and a steady hand.  Other wise you will have to take it to a shop that specializes in this type of thing.  We have a place out here in So. Cal called "The Hole Shop."
You may find something similar by you.

Sorry for the late reply, but the bolt came out...with an easy out.  I had a friend do it who owns and old Yamaha Seca and has had to do this many times on rusty bolts.  He was please about this one bc it wasn't rusty at all.  It came out in like 5 minutes.  A big "PHEW" and THANK YOU to you guys for the advice.

:thumb:   Cool!

I just ordered a NEW bolt from Suzuki for one of my bikes.  It was just a buck or so.

Experience is what we get right after we needed it most.  :x

I just read this, I had the same thing happen, and I used an easy out as well.
