sorry for being lazy, but i can't find a good resource about taking the fairings off of the 2005 gs500f.  i wanna see what this bike will look like naked, but at the same time i would like to put the fairings back on again in the future.  i could smash them off!  i started unbolting them and got to the bottom piece/underside and there was a black circle thingy keeping the left and right fairings together.....knowing me i'd break it and keep going out of frustration.  does any one know how to properly reomove them?  thanks

Jason

also, what happens to the headlight?  my bike is relatively new and all i have to get around so i can't break it!

Search AlphaFire X5's posts, and you should be able to find something. He made his F model nekkid.

Good luck!  :thumb:

The made it a faired model for a reason. although the black "Thingy" you talk of will pop out. you take a flathead and push up on the middle of the bottom of it and it will come out. do you understand my explanation? If not someone else could probably explain it better than me.

you could just take off the lower fairings and keep your upper portion with the headlight, or you could get a headlight bucket and some brackets and take the whole fairing off. I think universal stuff should work and it's pretty cheap, The fork legs are 37mm.

If you want it to look unique you could put a dual headlight setup on it like a speed tripple or a buell unit. I think a couple of 4" dirving light would work, whatever you think looks good. Of course you'll need to figure out the mounting on your own, but it shouldn't be too difficult. Of course if you can't figure out how to take off your fairings it may be too hard to make the bracket.

As far as seeing what the bike will look like, just look at all the photos of the naked GS500s and GS500Es, it'll look exactly like that.

You could probally sell your fairings to somebody who wants to convert their E to an F for a decent ammount if you want to keep yours naked. (it's easier to fix up after a drop if you keep it naked)

Have fun
