<rant>Never ever, ever get work done at Modern Motorsports on commercial. I had some bad gas a couple weeks ago (or so they say) and they took apart my carbs, plugs and jets and cleaned them. 52 km after i got the work done the bike stopped working again and started spraying gas out of the area under my tank, so i took to a real mechanic who does race bikes and he said they had replaced all the screws in the carb with mismatched out of spec screws and the carb float was from a different set of carbs all together... and they charged me 400$ to do this work, the real mechanic took a quarter of the time and only charged me 70$!!! and he had to do all the work over again!! uggg never ever go there. :2guns:  :dunno_white: </rant>

ok so why aren't you raising hell with modern motorsports?  I'd take the parts back that the other dude had to replace and tell them what's up and demand a complete refund.  I'm not sure if Canada has a better business buerrauewhatever thing but if you do, I'd threaten to take it to them and spread the word.

If they're willing to give you a complete refund then they're probably really good people with one crappy mechanic.

The BBB doesn't really mean anything to businesses. The BBB is a private company that you can phone up and get a report of how a business is, the only thing is that the business has to be a member of the BBB. So in fact that the are spineless, it's more the fact that they aren't really anything at all. As far as your problem go into the store and see what can be done, but don't go in there with a head of steam cause it will get you no where. Best to be polite over it even if the f*cked up.

A couple years back I had trouble with a phone company (XO Communications, now bought out by First Communications) - they didn't have their records of my closed account right and showed that I owed them $300 when really they owed me $200.  I worked through the BBB complaint process and the BBB contacted XO and then XO got really antsy and had a "special representative" contact me.  It was a pain but I finally did get a $200 check from XO.  BBB doesn't have regulatory or legal powers, but a negative file with the BBB does discourage some business so any halfway decent business will try to work things out with you.  The BBB is just one way to apply pressure.

The first way is to write a letter to the owner of Modern Motorsports.  For best results, get a letter from the new mechanic stating what was wrong.  You may or may not want to include a copy in your letter to Modern.  That may just set up a pissing contest.  But definitely in a rational tone (without any swearing) say what Modern did wrong and lay out a reasonable restitution that would satisfy you.  (Say, some money back or something)  You'd be surprised at how some people will actually apologize and give you a full or partial refund.  Equally surprising are the asshats that will respond with swearing and belligerence (sp?).  Those are the asshats that won't be in business for all that long, if the universe is just. ;)

I can understand the urge to just be mad at them, I've gone both ways.  Sometimes it's just not worth it, but other times it really can help you get over it.

I'm glad you found a good place to work on the bike, though!  I had a bad experience with my local shop and have yet to find a good place.  I've taken to desparate long hours working on it myself.  That's fun, sometimes.
