Thanks to all of you guys who awnsered my questions about the used bike I was looking at. Me and my dad drove out there this morning and we looked it over and everything was fine. My dad took her for a spin, everything fine there. The tires had about 1/8, more than a penny test, left of tread left on the center. So after all that, we offered $1100 and after a trip to the atm and then my house, I HAVE A MOTORCYCLE!!!!

So, after we looked it over good again, I had it up on the centerstand, and I go to roll it down, and well.... I tiped it over. HAHA, got the first one out of the way. So I got my helmet and such on and started to learn to use a clutch =) Thats interesting, like 40 stalls later, im on my way up and down my deadend street, on a bike with no plates, and me with no liscense. (oops  :nono:)

Anway, here are some pics ^_^

Then work came =( and I just got back, lol!

Congrats.

On the centerstand incident, always sit on the bike when bringing it down form the stand.  I "almost" dropped mine off the porch (1.5 feet off the ground) by standing next to it when lowering from centerstand.

Briliu

hehe, i vowed to either never put it on center stand, or to drop it down with me on it. What do you use the center stand for? Prolonged inactivity or what?

My god, LOOK at that fender...hack saw. hack saw.

Congratulations on your first bike. Quite a nice one too. You've been here long enough to know that there's a great resource at the gstwin home page and on my site!

I HIGHLY recomment you take the MSF course if you havent already (sounds like you havent yet).

I also HIGHLY recommend buying good gear-good fitting full face helmet, motorcycle gloves and boots, leather jacket. If strapped for cash check out newenough.com for great deals-esp in their closeout section.

Again, congrats!

already have a helmet (from snowmobeling, i just needed to buy a thicker face shield). I have boots, I have some leather gloves, they arnt specific for motorcycling but i dont know, i think i will ask the msf guys when i take the course. Im looking at getting the joe rocket reactor jacket (i'm pretty sure thats it), leather shoulders and arms, textile front and back, has armor in it.

About the msf course, im schedualed to take it  the 26-28. I just got antsy and since im on a dead end street i should be ok... (*crossfingers*) Plus i need to learn how to use the clutch, so i dont stall a bazillion times at the course.

Atleast I know every other bolt is tight lol!

Congrrrrats on the new baby!  I know I have enjoyed mine for the few months I have had it.

Wow, looks almost exactly like my bike when I got it, bald tire and all. :thumb:

Welcome to the addiction
That centerstand can make chain lubining much easier and faster. It also makes the bike more stable for any serious wrenching.

How much life you think that tire has in it? Its got about the penny rule distnace and then maybe a tiny bit more, the guy i bought it from's father said it probably had about another 1k miles left on it.

Oh and i tiped it over again.... Center stand again... This time getting it up on to the center stand. I think i will just always have someone on the other side from now on......

Having fun on my street though! No mishaps while moving

It sounds like the tires have enough tread to last a little while longer - at least for you to learn on.  I'd be more concerned about them being too old or dry.  If the rubber's fine, then run em to the wear bars.

But this centerstand dropping seems kinda bad... It shouldn't be a problem to keep it from falling.  To get it up, make sure the bike is vertical, w/ both sides of the c-stand touching the ground firmly.  I usually start w/ the bike leaning slightly toward me, lower the stand until the left side is touching, then slowly lean it over to the right until the other side touches.  Then use your weight and press down on the stand w/ your foot to lift the bike (one hand on bar and the other on the side rail to guide it up).  Once it's on the stand, it's pretty stable and you can even pivot the bike around - so just get it up quick w/ a good heave.  When you bring it down (if you're off the bike), rock it forward/back once to get a little momentum, then push straight forward, keeping the bars straight, and it will roll right off the stand.  I let it roll another few inches so it's stable, then squeeze the brake to stop it - don't pull on the bars.

Good luck.

I always sit on the bike and rock it off the center stand, much easier for us lightweights!

Also to get it on the centerstand easier I ride it up on a 2x6 and the bike goes on the centerstand like buttah! Putting it on the centerstand is always scary to me too cause it seems like it is gonna fall over. I am thinking of getting some of those paddock stands or whatever and just removing the centerstand.

Wow!  What a great looking bike.  I think you scored.  What year is it?

I'd also like to hear that you have a date set for your MSF course.

And as said - After you purchase some body gear, it's time for MODS, MODS, and more MODS.

You know Pablo, I like the fender the way it is, but then again, I liked that car that was all covered with real grass too!  You know the one.

Its a 92. Has a few chips in the tank and a scuff or 2 on the muffler but other than that its almost perfect.

It didnt come with an owners manuel so which one would you suggest? The haynes one on the support thing?

Lemmie know my dad wants to check out the fluids before I start actually riding it =)  Tranny fluid, oil, and change of air filter, all that fun stuff

glenn9171

Just a hint: the tranny fluid IS the engine oil. :thumb:

Since you bought the bike used, I would go ahead and change the oil and filter first thing.  The filter is about $5 and I use Castrol Syntec Blend 10W-40 at about $2.50 per quart.  So it is an inexpensive thing to do for a little peace of mind.

BE SURE NOT TO OVERTIGHTEN THE NUTS SECURING THE OIL FILTER COVER.  Just good and snug is fine.  If it's not leaking, it's tight enough.  Read the other posts on this.  The studs will snap off it you torque them too much.

Excellent advise.  Probably the number one problem with new owners seems to be the filter cover bolts.  Remember these nuts only have to compress the rubber oil gasket - No more.

Go ahead and order the manual here from GSTwin.com.  There's a link on the main page.  The site gets a cut and it's the better of the maunals IMO.

Good luck,
Paul
