Well, out of all the nonsense invented over the millenia, there are some philosophical maxims that seem to hold true. Among them:

You only live once
Seems true. If there is reincarnation, it's not much use. If you are reborn, it will probably not be as something that enjoys riding a motorcycle or having sex with nice ladies.

Life is short.
True. You should carpe diem as much as possible, work hard, play hard, seize the weekend, don't sweat the small stuff, etc. So, the world is your oyster, and as long as you're not hurting anybody, might as well have fun. However you could also say that life is actually pretty long, and that eternity is now. You could also say life's a Buddha Loves You and then you die. Or at least, it is what it is, and there are no easy answers. I guess the main point is to try and enjoy life as much as possible, which I think is good advice.

Still not sure what this means exactly but it comes to mind a lot as an actor-waiter.

Love is the answer, love is the ultimate truth, have love and compassion for all living things, etc. see Dalai Llama, Buddha, Jesus, etc.
At a certain state of mind this is absolutely true. I have had clear visions of this myself while tripping balls in the woods, shortly before succumbing to the urge to squish a salamander. Ultimately I think love and compassion are the natural fallout from a truly aware being. However, if you live in a central urban area like I do, you could also say that proper boundaries are essential, you have to keep the riff-raff out, and good fences make good neighbors. Also that some people just don't get it. Basically total kindness is perhaps not the most realistic worldview. Maybe the proper balance would be to speak softly, and carry a big stick , treat people with respect, eat what you kill, don't beat puppies, and to know that the world in fact is composed of 3 different kinds of people: D---.'s, P-----.'s, and A-------'s (see Team America: World Police).

See, there's three kinds of people: D's, P's, and A's. P's think everyone can get along, and D's just want to F all the time without thinking it through. But then you got your A's, Chuck. And all the A's want to S all over everything! So, P's may get mad at D's  once in a while, because P's get F'd by D's. But D's also F A's, Chuck. And if they didn't F the A's, you know what you'd get? You'd get your D and your P all covered in S!

many many years ago when I was a very young darkroom apprentice my boss came up with a piece of philosophy that I have found to be true.

80% of all people you meet are OK, this goes for just about everything there seems to be an 80% rule in life.

10% are going to be your friends, up to half of them will be realy good friends you can rely on for life.

The remaining 10% are b*ST*RDS, roughly half of them are real absolute B......s and the trick in life is to enjoy your friends and never ever let the B......s get you down or get the better of you.

There are other great philosophical questions that can never be answered like "Are unicorns hollow?"  "Is there really a china teapot in orbit between Earth and Mars?"
but I would not spend too much time worrying about them, LIFE IS TOO SHORT! go for a ride!!!
