I live in Pittsburgh and as luck would have it, I'm spending the summer at Fort Gordon GA. it was a little to far for me to ride, especially with all my Military gear, so I drove the car down. I'm now faced with a quandry, how to get the bike from there to here, more importantly how to get it back once I'm done with training. I have a friend with a pickup, but I'm reluctant to ask him to make the drive 2x's.

My current options that I've done a little research on.

1. have friend pickup truck it down, and come down and pickup it back.. he's a great friend, but I'd be a terrible friend to ask him to drive 20hrs in a weekend 2ce.
2. Have him bring it down now, and ship it back. shipping seems to be about 600 dollars, if you know of someone who'd ship it for less, I'd love to know.
3. Rent a Uhaul/trailer, etc I don't currently have a trailer hitch on my cavalier, but, I could probably get a hitch for 150, and a trailer for 400 (purchase) This isn't a bad idea, and I'm tossing it around as my current favorite.
4. suffer without, This doesn't feel like a good option, every day I wake up, look at the sun, and think.. I shouldn't be in a car. I'm already spending this time away from my wife and daughter, must i suffer completely?

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks

If you really need it down there, you'll fine a way. Several seem doable, if you have the cash to throw around.

I'm voting for the trailer idea myself... aside from riding it that one seems the easiest/most convient for you right now!
Current ride - none :(

How about trading your car for your friends truck for the weekend?

Do you have a ladder and some cord? Then look at the picture (and GS is smaller than that bike!).

I had a friend who made a L shaped thing out of steel C chanel that he plugged into his reciever hitch on his Jeep. He would strap the front wheel of his dirtbike into the bracket and then the rest of the bike would follow the car like a trailer. It worked great.

Even the super light duty recievers that you put on compact cars should be able to handle the weight of the front end.

If you have the $$$ I would go w/ the trailer option. It would be useful for years down the road  :thumb:

Maybe he should talk to Mak.
