I thought this thread was about what we've riden, not what we lust over?

Don't worry, it's just Terry's way. He's, well, special.

OOOOOOOOOOOOH.. You called him Terry, he's gonna be pissed.. it's SPECIALIST Terry, and don't you f%$king forget it! And he's not special.. he's... what was it? I swear I've heard the term, I think he told me what it was once (or a dozen times..).. oh yeah.. a... primal sound.. a guttural sound, too primitive for words? OH YEAH.. a GRUNT!

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

My '07 ZX14 is the fastest bike I've ridden. Yes, the bike makes scary horsepower but it's probably the most stable, beautifully riding bike I've ever ridden. Much nicer to ride than a Blackbird, another fave of mine. I've also ridden and thoroughly enjoyed the BMW K1200S. Very fast! But, of all the bikes I've owned and ridden the Kawasaki H2 takes the prize for speed entertainment. Love the thrill of the big two-stroke triple coming on the pipes.

old freinds 98 yzf600 black and white the first time I ever rode! second time I rode it hit 115 and now that I'm older I know stupid that was! If dirt bikes count I bought my yougest brother a custom built 125 fasest dirt bike in town, Than I crashed it. Now to my more mature days. I know have a 97 600  Shadow, 83 750 Magna, and of course 89 GS 500 my personal favorite.

Rented a 2001 yamaha R6 in panama beach, florida back in '02... that thing was ungodly fast!!! it had the digital speedometer on it, and if you gave it enough throttle it would skip numbers  :o not to mention being able to top 60 in "HOLY SH*T!!!!!" The riding position is VERY uncomfortable (at least to me) but good GOD those things are incredibly fast!!!
Current ride - none :(

I haven't ridden any fast bikes.

well, you'll get your chance... I suggest you stick to saying "holy crap that thing got to 70 quick!" and then if you want to say that about any other numbers...find a track  8) going fast on the street is a baaaaad idea... I'm sure everyone here has done it at least once (guilty here too, but that was a one time deal!) but with all the other "hazards" out there, 75~80mph is plenty fast to get the blood pumping on the street!  :thumb:

I've only had the GS and the R6.  I have to say that even after having the R6 for about 1000 miles, I STILL haven't been "willing" to bring it up past 7000rpm, even though the redline is about 11.5.  I just don't need it, even on the highway.

:o

CORRECTION:
While riding today, I looked down at the tach...  I haven' been above 9000rpm and it redlines at 15.5

I rode a mildly modified Hayabusa that was making about 185hp.

I got onto the freeway and rolled on the throttle, the front end got light and I was doing like 100+ before I could even poop myself.

I plopped it back down before it got more than like 6 inches, but not something I want to do often. I was just thinking about it coming down in an unhappy manner. Honestly I don't think I could ride something like that and really enjoy it, after all it has FAR more power than it can contain.

on topic:

I have not rode anything faster YET!!  I have only been riding a few months (but I am genetically altered to lust for more speed...damb drag racing father! so, I have already been looking to up to at least 750cc)

off-topic:

Dont hurt on Terry too much he is a young Grunt..and very stong in his Grunthood.  Over time he should call down some.  I was there once give him time...( U.S. Marine 8 yrs active duty - E-6- Staff Segeant)
p.s. Terry calm down a bit.  You need to learn to switch on/off your military charm (ie.. dont take work home)

An's got the 04 R6 the 06 was supposed to have 15.5 redline but it doesn't really and people that bought the bike were allowed to get full refunds because of that.  ( btw it's 2am and I might be wrong about the refund but I think I read about that here.)

The '06 was supposed to have a 17.5k redline, but went out to 15.5 or something like that. They were given the option of having the bike payed back to them in full (taxes and everything) if they were unhappy with it.

I think the '04 has a 14.5k redline, IIRC.

I hear ya SSgt.  it's been brought to my attention.  I'm working on it.  But, it does work for me right now,  I just qualed to go to SFQC, the only reason I would stay army.  Essentially, yeah we get ground into the mentality of being a grunt so hard that it takes a long time to wear off.  Thanks for having my back SSgt.  good to see someone in the fighting industry on here.  Also, i think a little of that lust for speed is from the grunt life, I never had a desire to ride before I enlisted, now i can't get enough and I always want more power and faster speeds.

Circles: I hear ya I want something powerful but not so powerful that I have to fight to keep it on the ground,  I've got a Solo pilots license if I want to fly I'll go rent a damn Cessna,  just want something that'll put all those idiots that spend 150k on a porsche to shame.

Completely off Topic: despite all my excitability,  i'm fairly level headed in combat.  I guess I just reserve all of the excitablity for home since it more than likely won't kill me to get a little  jumpy and excitable.  :dunno_white:

15.5 on the '04 R6.

It was the new '06 style that claimed 17.5, but Yamaha offered a FULL refund to anyone who didn't want the bike anymore.

Honestly I think the motorcycle as we currently know it only really has the capacity to handle about 100ish hp in a controlled fashion.

The brutal excess many of these bikes have is usually referred to as making it "wild / unruly / insane / ridiculous" Which you will find many if not all of these words used to describe bikes like the ZX-14, Hayabusa, GSXR 1000 and so forth.

Of course 250+ hp can be controlled but really at that point you've got a barracuda in a fish bowl, regardless of road or track. Granted on the track that's all well and good I guess, but on the road you've got enough to worry about without having the machine waiting to throw you off with only the most subtle mistake.
Rich, RIP.
