I'm going to install a drag bar to replace my bent stock bar. Probably get to it some time this week or weekend.

Any tips? I've looked at Pablo's site and checked out the SM bars installation. Drag bar should be similar.

I'm not sure about where I'm supposed to drill holes though. I'm hoping that when I start the installation process, location of the holes will be clear to me.

use yoru stock bars as a guide for the holes (also use the switchgear that goes on the bars-they have the nubs that go in the holes). Otherwise you'll have same issue with master cylinder banjo fitting as on S-M bars but install is straightforward.

How do I install the bar end weights on to the drag bar?

JasonB

If you have older bars that the weights threaded into you will have to get some ruber plugs and thread your screws into them, thats how the new ones are. Or you can put in a plug of jbweld and drill and tap it to be like your old bars. Or leave them off, but drag bars are a lot buzzier than the stock ones.

Depends.
Seems there are two types of barend weights (maybe early and late versions?).
Earlier ones screws into a welded peice inside the stock handlebar. If you have these you'll need to replace them with a)barend mirrors :) , b) barend weights from later model or c) aftermarket barend weights.
Later models have a rubber expanding plug that it screws into-you plug the entire thing into the end of bar. If you have this type you simply pop it onto the end of the new bars.

I dont know what years are what types though.

Good luck.

I installed teh drag bar a while back, and here's what I've got to say.  First, I found it ws easier to mill off the plastic tabs rather than drill holes.  I wasn't sure if someday I might want to change the position of the bar, so I didn't want to lock myself in with a hole.  The bolts hold everything tight enough that it doesn't shift around on me.  Second, the banjo fitting on the brake resevoir simply did not fit no matter what I did.  It always ran into the speedo housing, so there was no way that I could fit everything back onto the drag bar.  So I waited a while and tried again.  It fit just fine.  I don't get it, but don't be surprised if things simply don't fit the first try.  Just try again.

By the way, the seating position is definitely less comfortable (I'm 6'1" 165lb.).  At the same time, I like it 100% better!

Good luck,

I must have the older ones. The bar end weight screws into a welded piece inside the stock bar. To install bar end mirrors don't I need bar end weights?

pantablo

barend mirrors install instead of the weights in the ends of the bars. I have them and havent noticed any appreciable difference in vibrations on the bars when I had stock bars or now with the S-M bars I have.

I bought the Pyramid bar end mirrors a while back but never installed them. How do these install without the bar end weights?

pantablo

Sorry, I assumed you bought the Third Eye mirrors. The pyramids go on in between the weights and the bar end. You have to drill out the hole in the pyramid bracket so the weight screw will fit through it. You pass the screw through it and then install them both back on the end of the bar, so the weight presses the mirror bracket against the bar.
