Fairing Mod, any good suggestions for thinning the topline?

Whats up ladies and gents, I am new to the community and recently dropped some dough on a new 06 GS500F. After riding the bike for awhile I noticed I am not terribly fond of the topline of the side fairings on the bike. I have seen the posts on here how to go naked from a 500F and I have seen others going full fairings from a 500E. I was wondering, has anyone done any fiberglass or 3M bondo fairing work to a 500F? I have only done a few small projects with fiberglass so this would be a fairly big project for me...but I was looking to cut the side-top and top off of the fairing and then rebuild the fairing up. I would like to see a more gentle slope into the full width of the fairing while sitting on the bike, instead of seeing a 4" wide black plate staring back at me. This is just purely for asthetics but I was wondering if this would cause any problems with airflow to the engine or some other unforseen problem? Is there a reason why the topline is so chunky? Any ideas would be great. Thanks.

I guess I'm not sure exactly what you are talking about.  Are you talking about removing the upper fairing and making your own?  That would be a huge project and in my opinion would take a body work expert to make it look good and hold up structurally.

Come on...you know you want to go naked...  O0

I am definately not looking to go naked...No offense to those that prefer that though. I am just looking to trim the topline of the existing fairing. I dont want to replace the stock ones. The topline I am talking about is the part of the fairing that you see, when sitting on the bike, that is right up against the sides of the tank. It is like two runways on the side of the tank. If i knew how to insert a local image to this page I could give you my horrible mspaint visual aid.

upload the image to photobucket, or some other free hosting site (but I recommend photobucket).

The type the url of the image between two image tags, like this:

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

Ok here is my amazingly bad mspaint representation of what I would like to do.

The fairing would then have to flair out to the upper fairing somehow.  It doesn't seem worth the time or outrageous amount of effort that it would take.  For the time and money, you may as well go with the Brazilian fairing kit.

Wow I dont even know where to start after seeing those pics...After really looking at some of the close ups on those it seems there is really no way of thinning out the topline...even those have a decently (although not as much as stock) topline...I think this may be something I am willing to dive into next winter since doing a fabrication with fiberglass will take some time, and I will be able to get the look I want. Also after seeing those pics, how did they get those handlebars on those. I am by no means a bike mechanic and really have only started riding this month...so this is all new to me, but I like the look of the handlebar style on those...they look like a gixxer. The GS500 has risers on it and I would like to eliminate the rise from the top of the forks. The gixxers look like they are attached under the top of the forks.

They are called "clip ons".  Do a search here or on Google and you'll find more information than you'll know what to do with.

Bottom line, if you've got $150, you can get a nice set of 37mm clip ons for your bike, but they may interfere with your fairings.

aluzio kit is sexy.. but be aware, everything I've ever read here says that the fit is not so high quality. It takes a lot of tweaking, redrilling, twisting, sliding, repositioning, etc to get the kit on right. Of course, after all that.. it's f%$king GORGEOUS! Fettcols had the best looking one I'd ever seen.. don't see him post much around here anymore, since it got totaled and he won/bought a new hardley..
