Im a 23 year old student from Wales in the UK,
Just bought my GS on ebay two days ago!
Paid £640 for a '98 model. 15K miles on the clock, all in all im chuffed to bits so far.

Previous bike was a Honda CB1 400 but i was getting get fed up of the 80 mile tank range.  It was a toss up between the CB500 and the GS500.
I chose the GS coz it was cheaper all round.

From South Africa, i bought a GS recently second hand. Its been rebuilt i think, and the PO painted the whole damn frame with a kind of cheap matt silver anti-rust paint. The fool.  Its my first bike (not counting my scooter before) , and its changing my life dramatically. I spent a year fantasising about it while i saved the money, dreaming every day of motorbikes. I really wanna do some touring soon, although i am kinda wishing i could have afforded a Honda XR500 (not that i dont love my GS. I really do.) Oh well, maybe next time!

There will always be the bike you want and the bike you can afford.  One step at a time.

I just wanted to formally introduce myself since i've been posting on here asking  questions already... My name is Justin, I'm from San Diego.  I recently picked up a 97 GS500 off a buddy for the price of gas to drive 4 hours to and from to go get it.  i think it was a good investment but trying to get it running right has been a pain. Not a problem though, i'm used to getting my hands dirty and figuring out what is wrong.  my buddy who had the bike before me didn't take good care of it at all... as a fact it hasn't been registered in 2 years, the tires are dry rotted and it sat for the last 18 months... he took off the pastics and now i am left with a naked, naked bike.  i will be posting a lot becuase this is the first streetbike i've owned and i would love to get it going, gas prices are driving me crazy in my F150.  feel free to email me with suggestions i should do to my bike or if you have plastics or anything you don't want.

thanks,
Justin
1997 GS500, I don't know anything about it, i just got it.  HELP!

Yeah, I'm with you.  I've got a 3/4 ton chevy with a 400 big block and it's killing me.  All mine needs is a new battery and fresh tires but I've been trying to put together a crashed TL1000S so all my time and money have gone there.

BTW I'm, uh hummm, over 50 and live in a very small town in Central Texas.  I'm fortunate enough to have some pretty decent riding just out my back door.

I've been coming to this site for some time now but have never used the forum and thought it was about time.

I've got a 1990 GS500 that I bought for my wife in 1992.  It just had a few hundred miles on it and we've had it ever since.  I sort of inherited it back when she got a new bike.  It's only got about 15K on it but as usual the rear shock has gone limp and the front springs are sacked.  Bought a GSXR shock off EBAY and have a spare Yosh carbon canister off the crashed TL that will go on without much trouble.  I've also bought a set of 05 ZX636 rearsets.  I'm sure others have discovered this but those things are a bolt on and take off a ton of weight.  They just require hooking up the brake and lengthening the shift shaft.  Now all I need to do is find the time to get all this stuff on the bike.

Good riding,  Wuff

Good morning from Finland. Name is Teppo Ronkainen, I'm 33 and I bought an old GS as my first bike.

Buddywho?

Welcome to you both Trosti and skyydiver!  More than happy to have people from other parts of the world on here, and good thing you are multi-lingual because all of the write-ups I have seen in the site are in the English language.  Do you know any German by chance Torsti?

Skyydiver I have the same model, color and year as your bike.  I was, also, in the navy back in 95-97.  My last post was in Norfolk, VA.  I did not do the full 4 years though, long story.  I enjoy the bike and it is fun even if I am tall and lanky so I do hope you enjoy yours too.  Take your time and enjoy every minute of it.  It has been one big learning exerience for me, still, and I bought mine back in early November!

Good luck to the both of you. :thumb: 8)
