Well my ex-wife took the digital camera when she left. . . so  I need a replacement.  Not for the wife but for the camera

Any suggestions? 

What I would like is something small that I can carry in my pocket when I ride or will fit into a small tank bag.

From my experience go with a Kodak.Stay away from Fuji.Fuji is about the Most Irratating I've used.

kodak = shaZam!. Sorry Jug, but in the world of point and shoots, kodak is about bottom of the list.

Dave, if you have time, come see me at work.. I'll help you pick something, and set you up with my employee cost on it. Or just buy it for you, however you want to work it. We have a good selection of cameras, all the accessories, and I get it all at cost. Unfortunately, there's not a huge profit margin in cameras, but I'll do what I can.

I hate Sony, and promised myself I'd never buy another one of their products. That last part is a little biased, sony makes decent cameras, but they overcharge, and they're still not as nice as the Panasonics.

Take a look at hhgregg.com and see if there's anything there that catches your eye. Let me know, you have my cell #. I'm off all day tomorrow (and I get paid), and I work from 4-9 on Saturday, off again on Sunday. After that, I have no idea what my schedule looks like..

The Kodak I have has Been really good for the Past 4-5 Years. I admit the Quality is Probably Lacking since then.

new kodaks = plastic lenses, shitty bundled software, slow autofocus, horrible shutter speeds, mediocre aperture settings, almost no manual settings, short battery life, long read/write times... I could go on and on..

Nikon has the best lenses and great pic qualities but not always highest res/features.
Sony has great features but easy-to-break cameras.
Fuji has green stuff.
kodak has expensive stuff that can sometimes compete but not very often.
Minolta hangs out with Kodak.
Cannon has nice mechanics and features but crap-ass lenses.

i use a Sony dSC-s90.  It's the second best cybershot I've owned (I broke the others within weeks of purchase).  This one I bought used for $50.

I'm gonna have to disagree on the canons having crappy lenses. They have decent lenses, and fantastic sensors and processors.

Also, you left out Panasonic, a relative newcomer. Their Lumix line of cameras is amazing (what I eventually want to buy for myself, when I can afford one)... Leica lenses, extremely fast shutters, continuous shooting at 2+ frames per second, VGA video @ 30 frames per second, no read/write lag, SD memory, light, compact, optical image stabilizers, what more could you want?

That's what my mom has,  she loves that stupid little thing

After Thousands of Pictures Mine is Starting to Get a Little Blurry.It's only a 3.1MP.I gave around $320 for it thru Dell.I can't Complain the only thing I have Against it is that it Freezes up and Shuts off below 30 Degrees outside.

Kodak is a point and shoot BASIC BEGINNERS camera.  And from my experiences working at a retail store, lots of customer bring them back damaged.



I just bought a FujiFilm S9000.

It's SLR-like, but you can still use it as a basic point & shoot.

He's right about the lenses on Nikon cameras...  one of THE best on the market for lense quality if not THE BEST.

I've got the Lumix DMC-FX07 (7.2 mp, I think)

I'm not a skilled photographer, but this tiny camera makes even my shots better. I had looked at some others that were even smaller for the tank bag, but this has a stabilized Leica lens that does really nice wide angles (for scenery), and effortless macros. It'll easily carry in a shirt pocket. It interfaces with my PC with NO special software, even mounting it's memory as a "drive" on Linux. And, it's TINY, but has a pretty huge preview screen. Zero complaints so far... seems almost ideal for the tank bag.

I don't know jack about digital camer's but I think I'm going to go with the panasonic or at least something from hhgreg    Will probally see you Sat Nick

Which one of these panasonic's would you go with?

was thinking this one DMCTZ3K   or DMCFX50K or if one of the others are just as good and cheaper I can go with one of those.  Suggestions?

I have a Fuji F30 I really like. The big advantage of it is that it has a natural light mode that shoots up to ISO3200. What that does is let it take in a lot more light so you can take pictures without a flash. Say you're taking a photo indoors, decent light but not enough to really expose a pic. If you turn the flash on, you get a brightly lit subject and a dark background. With the natural light mode, you don't need to use the flash and you don't have to worry about foreground/background exposures. Really makes for much nicer pictures in low light.

The only caveat is that ISO3200 is really noisy. I've found that ISO1600 does a pretty good job though, usuable for on screen or small prints. ISO800 is really clean. A lot of cameras can't even go up to 400 without a lot of noise, my previous camera was like that.

The TZ50 is a nice camera, but it will be slightly larger.

The FX50 is a great camera, less zoom, but smaller. Really, it'll be easiest for you to decide if you come in Saturday and hold them and play with them. I work from noon until 9, so just swing by!

I'll sell you my digicam.  Olympus D-100.  A whopping 1.3 megapixels.  About 6 years old and the battery cover is held on with duct tape.  It's probably worth about 5 bucks 




Not much constructive to add, but when I do get a new camera someday, I've heard the Canon SD series is good and cnet.com agrees.  I've also pretty much what everyone has said here.  My dad has always had Fujis and I like those.  But really the best advice I've heard is to go to a store where you can hold them and see what you like.

I've used a big Fuji like An has and it was great, just kinda big to lug around everywhere

Yep, I work in marketing and have about 4 Nikons, 2 Canons... I like the Nikons best, and use them in print (brochures) exclusively.
