Hi folks!

I'm Dave from Bristol, in the south-west of England (UK). I'm back to biking after a 15 year break - I passed my bike test a couple of months ago as part of my 40th birthday present.  :)  I loved being on a bike again so much that I went straight out and bought a new GS500!  :thumb:

Best regards,
Dave

I was riding a CG125 when a car turned across my path. I was fine but the bike was smashed. The insurance company wouldn't pay up so I was stuck paying off the finance and couldn't afford another bike. I stuck with my car, then along came a wife, kids...you know how it goes.

I was persuaded back onto two wheels by some of the guys at work. I think I owe them a lot of beer.  ;)

Hi, I'm Channing from Roanoke, VA. Just picked up an '02 with 3500 miles on it, it's mostly like brand new as far as I can tell.

My first bike, my first ride on a public street was yesterday. I took the MSF course a month ago, got a good amount of gear, and plan on hitting the track with Cornerspeed or similar as soon as I feel comfortable with it. I have a lot of cager track experience, but I bit tired of working on cars, and I can't afford to take the next step and race it, so this seems like a good alternative. Needs some new tires before that of course, and I'll probably get the engine cover bar/slider thing ASAP, but other than that, stock is pretty impressive! I'm super happy, it's like learning to drive all over again.  :icon_mrgreen:

Mike from Waco Texas here.  I've been riding 5 years now, especially like long distance road trips.  I'm a vintage Honda whore, 79 Goldwing, 84 v45 Magna and an 86 v65 Magna.  Friend had a 92 gs500e he bought non-running and lost interest in it.  He offered it to me for free if I wanted it.  So I loaded it in the back of my truck and brought it home.

Good thing I'm secure in my manhood, its purple with pink stripes.

Will post pics when I get it running in a couple of weeks. Problem seems to be the carbs, searching for parts now...

Hi guys,

My name is Amanda. I'm from St Louis, MO but right now I'm residing in Rolla, MO for school. I'm 20 years old and just got my very first bike three weeks ago. She's a 1992 GS500E, black over black. The PO installed Vance & Hines full exhaust, K&N lunchbox, Stage 3 Jet Kit, powder coated frame and wheels, fork spacers, Corbin seat and too much else to name. Needless to say, the bike has a few problems with all the custom work done to it (not to mention the stupid fuel starvation thing - parts on order). Nothing I can't handle with GS Twin as a resource, right?

Anyway, here she is:

Hi all! I'm going into my second year of grad school at UCLA for math.  I'm a single girl, adopted from Korea, raised in Indiana, and now am in sunny LA.  I recently got a 1996 GS500 as my first bike, and I'm very excited about riding.  I'm short, so I had the bike lowered so I can now almost flatfoot.  I'm still learning to ride (LA traffic doesn't make it any easier), but I'm having a blast already.  I've gotten some great advice about fixing my bike up, and I can't wait to get to know you guys some more!

People are going to start telling you to take an Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) course, if you haven't already.  They are definitely valuable for a new rider, but I am in grad school as well so I know how schedules can be.  If you don't think you can take a course, you should consider buying the MSF's Guide to Motorcycling Excellence book.  It's full of good info for new riders.  It's probably the same stuff that is taught at a beginning riding course, though I don't know for sure as I haven't taken an MSF course.  Still, I bought the book after having been riding for 5 years and still learned some new stuff.  It's about $16 from Amazon.com if you're interested.

I actually did take the course about a month ago, and I have since recommended it to all my friends who are thinking about getting a bike.  I actually signed up for the course, but while I was waiting for my riding date to come, I went ahead and bought my bike.  I know the GS is a small bike, but even it was intimidating with 0 riding experience.  However, after getting the hang of riding on the little 125cc MSF bike, I felt much more confident to tackle mine :)

I've already said "hello" in another thread but I suppose I should check in to the official Who's Who.  Isn't there a rule that newbies have to read this entire thread?  ;)

My name is Tom.  I'm originally from Lynchburg, VA and moved to Overland Park, KS in 1983.  Except for riding trail bikes as a kid (20-some years ago), I'm fairly new to riding.  This is me on the '00 GS500e for my first ride outside of my neighborhood.  Believe it or not this bike moves out pretty well even under my mass.  I also considered a Ninja 500, Honda CB650/750, Buell Blast and I'm very happy with my choice.  I planned to ride this as a starter bike for a season and then move up to an SV650 but I think I'll keep this one for awhile.  I rode it to work today and couldn't wait for 5 o'clock.  I said screw the traffic jam and took the long way home.

BH

Hello there...

So, I just signed up on this site and this seemed as good a thread as any to introduce myself.

Anyhow- My name is Tracy. I am a 33 year old american male. I currently work at a 24 hour adult bookstore. When not slinging porn to the masses, I can be found either training for my next fight (I am also a Thai Boxer). I am currently headquartered in Portland Oregon.

I used to ride many many moons ago. I had to quit after my CBR600 helped get my license revoked...as an aside, a piece of advice: When a police officer asks you the important question, "Do you realise how fast you were going?", do NOT respond with, "well gee, sir. I dunno. The speedometre only goes up to 150.". They don't find that amusing at all.

Right...so anyway, after that life got in the way. The wife made me give up riding. And then there was the shitty career to think about, and the cats, and bills, and...fast forward to the present, where I lack all of the above, thus freeing me to begin riding again.

I just purchased a 1989 GS500E about a week or so ago. Pictures will be forthcoming as soon as I can find a good camera to take them. Needless to say, I fell in LOVE with this bike at first sight. However, since I've not ridden in over a decade (11 or 12 years, give or take), I am finding relearning to ride a daunting task. Especially that whole not stalling the thing while trying to get the thing moving from a dead stop thing...*sigh*

And with that, it is a pleasure to meet all of you!

-Tracy!

Welcome all!

Rolla huh?  You need to check out highway DD, P, 32, and V.  DD and V headed West from DD are excellent technical roads.  Be ready for the many decreasing radius corners on V, many are not marked!  The surface on DD is brand new.   :icon_mrgreen:

There are a few of us in the STL area.  We'll have to put another ride together some time.   :thumb:
