I need a valve for my 94 GS500.  Its not the valve that goes under the tank.  It is the valve that is on the right side, it has a fuel on and fuel off setting.  The problem with mine is, when the valve is on fuel drains into the heads or something and at that point it is a pain to fix.  I have been ridding with the valve off most of the time, only turning it on if I must, and definately parking the bike with the valve off.  I dont think its called the petcock but, I really dont know.  My questions are:  What is the actual name for this part?  Where can I find them, besides the typical bike shops?  Is there an aftermarket version that would be an upgrade??  The image below is what the part looks like.  there are two parts in the pic, it the part on the left.  Thank you!!

The problem is your floats not so much the petcock. Your floats are sticking open allowing the fuel to flow  :thumb:

The GS petcock does not have an "off" only RUN,RES, and PRI. If fuel is still flowing into the carbs while on RUN or RES you may have something w/ the petcock. But the main problem is the floats  :thumb:

Will I need to get a new carb to fix the floats or a rebuild kit or can I just get the floats??

You shouldn't need new carbs or new floats they just need adjusted most likely. At most you may need a carb rebuild kit. Do a bit of searching and troubleshooting before you do too much  :thumb:

There are some good posts.. search "adjust floats" also a good crab cleaning is a good place to start  :thumb:

I had the same problem.

First clean out the float bowl region of the carbs, as this what was wrong with mine, the floats were not able to close because something kept getting stuck in them, and gas would run continuously, also sometimes it would make them get stuck close and i would "run out of gas" while driving because the floats would not let any more fuel in.

You may just need new floats or to replace some parts in the carbs. I do have petcocks for sale, but if you needed them you would have problems with your bike running like crap.

Twisty stuff is for me
