At least you want be upset if you drop or scratch it.

That's a really good point!  Perhaps I should leave it in its scratched up, somewhat rusty state while I learn to ride on the roads and off the MSF course parking lots!

Hi
I'm a new rider  (2 months )  :) , 59 yr. old male from Tecumseh, Ontario.  Riding a motorbcycle was something that I  had always wanted to do,  and finally, I got the balls to do it.  Call it midlife crisis or recapturing my youth, I just love it . It was simply the best decision I have ever made. My GS500F is great and what a fun bike to ride. I feel like a kid again. Cannot get enough of it. I ride it to and from work, to go to the corner store, to get a coffee, to visit friends... ANY reason is reason enough. Married, two grown daughters – all very supportive - can't get much better than that.  Not very mechanically minded but willing to learn. I have a super good friend I ride with and who teaches me a lot. Riding is the BEST. :thumb:

CanadianRider

Middle aged female HR consultant from Toronto Canada in first year of riding.  Have already done 3.5K tour with husband (wee-strommer) on my 2006 blue and white GS500F and loved it.  Bike performs well and even better, copes with some convoluted things I do in corners and other newbie things with aplomb!  Plus it's pretty like heck with the fairing.

Names Rafe! From Rolla, MO. Go to school in Springfield, MO now. Just purchased a '90 GS500E from a forum member. Probaby over paid. Bike isn't much to look at but it seems to be pretty mechanically sound. Had a friend test drive it for me before I bought it. He's been riding for around 3 or 4 years and works at a Honda shop. He says the bike appears to be a bit rednecked. He's kinda anal. Lots of stock bolts have been replaced. Frame was painted with out taping off behind. Aftermarket turn signals are connected by house wiring (probably from a lamp made in the 80s.) But Hey, I have a bike now. I haven't even rode it yet. Hope to get it insured and licensed tomorrow and then take the MSP class this coming weekend. Can't wait to give it a spin. I'm well aware of the dangers of being a rider and I plan on being very cauticious. This website has been amazing so far. Got me started. Got me a bike. And will hopefully keep my riding for years to come. Thanks everyone.

Rolla huh?  You need to check out highway DD, P, 32, and V.  DD and V headed West from DD are excellent technical roads.  Be ready for the many decreasing radius corners on V, many are not marked!  The surface on DD is brand new.   :icon_mrgreen:

There are a few of us in the STL area.  We'll have to put another ride together some time.   :thumb:

I've now had the bike for a few weeks and I think I've found some pretty good roads. My favorite route: E to A to 63 back into Rolla. It has a mix of twisties and highway straights. I've also been down Old Saint James to V (east) to 68 through St James and back down BB into Rolla. Both routes have a good mix of turns and straights.  I'll have to check out DD, V west, P and 32 between classes.

If you guys put together a ride, PM me for sure.

Just road the BB route to St. James this weekend to 68. Then took 68 to 63 and back to Rolla. Was a good ride. A little cold since I took my lining out of my jacket thinking it was nice out. Let me know if you ever make it down to the Rolla Area. Even though I mostly live in Springfield now.

I'm a student at Florida State University in Tallahassee. I decided to buy a bike because unless you arrive on campus at 6:00AM you can forget about parking, also gas was at is highest at that time. I chose the GS500 because it was nicer looking than the Ninja, even though the Ninja was cheaper. I had never considered a bike till then, and I will never go without. From the first time I took her around the block I was hooked, she took my innocence and made me a man. Mods are slow going because I have no money, but we'll get there.

Anyone in Tallahassee who wants to ride, let me know!

College student in ALbuquerque. I got a 00 GS500E. I love the bike. Although its much rougher than my other 2 friends ninjas, I swear mine is much more exciting to ride! As soon as I get some pictures, I will post. I am having a problem with it stalling on me, but that will hopefully be fixed with cleaning the carbs and rejetting. I love cars as well, and do many different modifications on them. Last big project was a full Tail light LED retrofit in a 98 camry. This weekend is a 06 Lexus GS that my friend would like to have dvds play in his NAVI while driving. I am also looking into LED retrofit for the bike. If anyone lives in Albuquerque and knows his way around the GS500E please tell me.

Hey All,

I'm a 23 year old female in Los Angeles... I'm an architect interested in environmentally conscious buildings and I'm thrilled to not be one more car in traffic anymore... and thus helping the environment!

I ride a 98 GS... Yellow. Nice to meet you!

I'm looking to do some small mostly appearance-based mods to my bike (I'm satisfied otherwise) and would be grateful for any tips.

P.S. anyone else hurting at the cost of L.A. motorcycle insurance rates? Jesus, I had to register my bike with my parents' address in the suburbs and it was still astronomic.

Just realized I haven't posted in this thread yet.  My name is Brad.  I'm 24 years old from Huntington Beach, California.  I'm a graphic artist for a (very) large surf company.  I'm married to my high school sweetheart, and we are now 5 months pregnant with our first baby girl.  This past 6 months has been rough for me because I've been wanting to ride for so long, and started looking for a bike.  Then we found out that my wife is pregnant, so it's been a struggle with myself on whether I should continue to ride or not.  I took the MSF course, and riding is pretty much only for my 3 mile commute to work and back.  Anyways, it's great to be here with such a great community of fellow riders.
