Dual exhaust - who did the carbon fiber low exhaust ? I can't find the thread.

The exhaust was very low, under the frame iirc, and exited before the rear wheel. Seems like the pipes or just the tips may have been stainless or Ti. Maybe the cans were carbon fiber ?

I can't get the look out of my head, and I'm going to have to try making/buying one.

I'd like to get some details about either one really. The first one just has to make a decent weight difference.

I think if you cut the exhaust too short like that you may loose some HP.  I don't know if you are just after a certain look, but with this bike being so low in HP already I don't think I would do it myself.  If you shorten the pipes too much you loose back pressure.  You loose even more back pressure by going to a 2 into 2 exhaust with two open race cans on the end.  Just my 2 cents.  Looks cool but is a HP killer in my book.
Ride it like you stole it.  But, then fix it right.

Na... The GS isnt a 2 stroke. In a 4 stroke the pipe doesn't have that  much to do w/HP


I think that low short look is cool  :thumb:

Na... The GS isnt a 2 stroke. In a 4 stroke the pipe doesn't have that  much to do w/HP

if that was true why do almost all after market pipes flow better/produce more power

everything is designed into the bike


there are min/max lengths for headpipes/intake tracts/collector lengths/overall lengths for power gains

the info is probably in a college thesis on line somewhere....if you can find or get access...SME if i member    correctly

It's currently in its winter project stage. I understand the hp loss ordeal. That is why I'm rejetting and inserting two additonal baffles into those pipes. To my understanding, other Twin owners, besides us GS'ers run straight pipes, some with baffles others without. Although their Twins probably make more torque and hp then ours, they key is in the jetting I believe. I'm also running a smaller sprocket.

I'll take a few more pics of her when it gets warmer in my garage. Changed my GS500R tail fairing from undertail exhaust to under belly and have installed 69 Cadillac Led's as tail lights in it's place. She's all taped up waiting for a respray. Waiting for shim kit to check her valves and then Srinath to send back my carbs.

Ya, that's the setup. Thanks man, it's a really cool look if you ask me. You mentioned putting the baffles back in and experimenting with jetting to get it right. I wonder what it sounds like, once SS gets done with the carbs ?

Keep me/us posted on how this project turns out.
