removing seat, without key...

OK I have been an idiot! In the process of sorting out the carbs problems i have, I put the bike back together (sans carbs) so that I could get her back into the garage. The only problem is that I re-attached the fairing and then put the seat on, suddenly realising that I haven't connected the seat catch release  Other then breaking the seat, is there anyway of removing the seat from the bike?

The carbs and airbox are not attached so there is a gaping hole to gain access with. I have tried several ideas but none have work (removing the clamp off of the underside of the petrol tank by the seat, trying to get the screws off for the fairing).

I feel an idiot  :dunno_white:

ohgood

I'm wondering what you mean by not attaching the "seat catch release" ?

Pics and a description of how to do it.

I think he meant the actual cable isn't on the seat release...

the fastest way is using a 90 degree pick and removing the black under fender and use the pick and push the latch.

Well my way takes about 5-10 seconds  once you pick up the bent screwdriver tool, or maybe a minute if you have to bend one.

If you can pull an inner fender off and get the seat to release  faster than that- I'm very impressed.

I had a small length of aluminium tubing that was of the right size to fit into the catch, spent about 5 minutes over a gas hob heating and bending it.

Worked great :D

I spent 30 minutes trying to figure this one out... after reading this and grabbing a coat hanger it took about 10 seconds. Thanks guys, very helpful.

Ok wow what a coincidence....I did the same thing after accidently pushing down the seat (my bike is in the process of mods so discconeted that cable)......so just use a wire coat hanger and pullback??

JHoffy8

Yeah I just bent a coat hanger in the same shape as the aluminum in that picture. Id start from the left side of the bike drop the hook into the plastic hole that the ball goes into and just pull toward you. Make sure you grab the seat while it is detached. GL!
