Ok, so i was wanting to upgrade my headlight compartment a little bit. I have bought a new bulb and installed it and it doesn;t seem to do the trick. I was wanting to buy a HID kit, and found one on ebay. It claims it is plug and play...just curious if anyone has had experience with these kits and if they are indeed plug and play...

Cheers.

Most of the kits on ebay are universal and don't have the connectors.Either way, they are easy to install and come with instructions. If some one says they have a HID system and it's a bulb with with a little box made to it,don't buy it.Real HIDS have special electronics to control the bulb.

...hence the little box which is 100% of the time....the ballast  :icon_rolleyes:  If you buy the kit that you need, which in our kit would be an h4 kit, it should be plug and play. Alot of kits; depending on the type of bulb; just come with a postive and negative that plugs into your socket.

HID isn't all that simple. Yeah you can get a plug and play kit, for that all you need is a hid bulb and a ballast. The thing that wont make it work right is your housing. Ideally you would want to retrofit or fabricate a HID suitable projector into your headlight housing as this will give you the flicker and cut off you need. Simply put if you put a plug n  play into your housing then you will have a bad cut off, the light will not be focused and will blind everyone. So yeah...not as simple as people make it seem!!

DO NOT put a HID setup into the stock GS headlight housing.  It's not made for it...you'll lose half your light and blind oncoming traffic too.

HID lighting needs to be installed in a dedicated low-beam housing designed to project light in an effective and unoffensive manner.  Housings designed for a dual filament bulb, instead of having a proper contour to aim light in the needed areas, require a shield installed in the bulb, in the housing, or both, that prevents full reflection of the beam.  So you not only have a poor contour for the low beam, but a HID bulb will come with no inner reflector/shield and it will bypass one in the housing, which will render a full scatter of the light.

Morons installing aftermarket HID kits into dual-beam housings are what got the things banned from road use to begin with.

You can get these, make sure to get a Bi-xenon conversion. They have a special reflector and movable light so as to not blind people on low beam mode but you still get high beams when you need to. I have a friend who has this exact kit. I can tell you it's not scattering light in any different pattern than stock on low beam mode and on high beam mode it's correctly projecting light also. The biggest difference is just the shear amount of light, it's  as bright as any luxury car. This of course only applies to the reflector style headlights like on the GS500F the round beam faceted headlight will throw light around randomly but it shouldn't be too much of a problem if it's aimed correctly.

The one I bought from Japan was design specifically with anti-vibration bulbs for motorcycles (grin) Bi-H4 is the way to go

I need to get some HID's, I just keep putting it off.  No excuse, it's damn near plug and play since I have projectors.
