DONATE YOUR SHIMS TO A NEW VALVE KIT.

So it looks like we lost the east coast valve kit. I went to ebay and picked up a valve tool, a caliper, and I allready have a set of feeler guages from my days of driving around the country in a 1978 VW camper. So If you will send me any shims you have around I'll send the stuff out as a new kit after I do my valves.

PM me for my address if you have shims to donate or add your name to the line for kit.

gmark, read my post under the East Coast valve adjustment kit thread.  If we can all decide what to do with it, then I would be willing to throw tools in the bag.  Along with your valve tool, I think we could have a great kit for the West and East coast.  lemme know.

gmark

Sounds great to me. If we can get some shims to go with the tools we are golden.

I was thinking if there are enough shims in the current east coast kit that we could split them evenly between the two kits while making sure both kits have an even mix of thicker and thinner shims.  I'm going to try and arrange to pay UPS to pick up the kit from him and have it shipped to Tang.

Is there a kit like this going around in the UK? If not then it would be great if we could get one going.

There was $10. in it when I sent it out to him, plus I added a new gauge set and my cool new magnet tool!

It would cost about $12. without insurance, I insured it for $199.00. That would be about $14.50 Priority Mail.

Dang!  :icon_confused:

I'm thinking maybe forum members should be on for like a 6 month minimum before they get access to a kit anymore, it's a serious responsibility to take care of it and get it sent out in a timely manner. The shims alone were worth $100. I contributed $15. out of pocket to it too. That pisses me off.  :nono:

OK, you're onto something. How about a gstwins PAYPAL ACCOUNT that takes a deposit of say... $100 or so before the kit is shipped, AND the gstwins member has 6 months of legit posts ? IT's WORTH WAY MORE THAN THAT, but it would help weed out the folks that might sit on the kit and not care.

On a side note, we're not just replacing a missing kit. We should also take up donations to REPAY KERRY for his loss. I'm pledging $20 myself NOW.

If I'm way off base with my opinion, let me know. Like I said, we should repay the owner of the kit, get a new one in circulation, and have some kind of way of assuring the kit would be kept moving.

Besides, I'm going to need it again soon.... ;)

The paypal account thing is a great idea, but paypal will take some of that $100.00 on both ends of the transaction.  You wind up with less $ than you began with.  Say I wanted the kit and sent $100.00 to the account.  Paypal would take a little off the top of that $ and deposit the rest in the account.  Then, when it came time to send the deposit back to me, they would take a little more off of that amount and I would end up with less than $100.00 back in my account.  I'm a responsible person and would never treat the kit or any of you with the amount of disrespect that has been shown lately, but I may not have $100.00 to throw around either.  Maybe I should have extra $$ to send off for the kit like others may have, but I don't.  Two kids, a wife, and a new house kind of cuts into other things.  And besides, I've only been on here for 2 going on 3 months.  I would have to wait another 3 months before I could even get in line for the kit......and we just can't have that! O0 It's going to take some serious thought to figure out the best route here I think.  It's hard to judge a persons character when you've never met them face to face.

Good points ! A deposit of some sort, ($100 was just a round figure), and -some- time and posts on the forum should be enough. Ya, the paypal thing is an idea, but I don't know how much they charge per transaction. I'm always on the -paying- end of paypal, and haven't really paid attention to the receiving end to tell the truth.

It upset me when I read the comments by the last user of the kit. If I recall correctly, it cost $23 or so for me to ship it to the next person, last time I used it. That's not much.

ImportBabe (or was it Teek) said there was a $10 bill in the kit ? Did I miss something , and was I supposed to forward some cash when I was done with it ? Sorry if I did, I'll forward some cash to whoever was next after me. :)

The $10.00 was to go to a new west coast kit, but it looks like it ended up getting paintballs or some such crap. I offered to have the kid send the kit to me COD. Anyway I have most of the stuff now thanks to ebay and an old vw bus i used to own. I noticed a shim kit for $70 but I don't have the money to spend. The little tool and the caliper ran me right at $40. I was hoping that some folks would have shims but if not I'll send out my tools and old shims as a kit when I am done.

gmark, no need to throw your almost completed kit out there just yet.  Lets wait a day or so and see what happens with the paintball guy.  Maybe he will man up and send the kit on.  The kit does go to Tang, just in case you do send it out suzukimx4898 or whatever.

Hey guys,

I'm pretty new around here but I think it's a good idea to go with the Paypal deal.  From my experience, if you have a personal account there's no charges to send money.  Not sure about receiving.  Anyway, I'd be willing to earn my right by waiting 6 months if necessary.

Here's a list of the various fees.

https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-fees-outside

It looks like as long as the $$ is already in your paypal account and you send from one paypal account to another, then there is no fee to send or receive!  So, this may be a viable solution.  I'd be all for this method of making sure people stay honest.  Now, who would see over the account and be responsible for transferring funds?  I think a vote may be in order.  Good thinkin Kyle!  :thumb:

Count me in, I've been putting off checking / adjusting my valves because I didn't want to buy all the stuff. It's certainly worth a $100 deposit, plus shipping and some sort of replacement fee. Say, I deposit $110 into the account when I'm next on the list, it gets shipped to me, I use it and ship it on to the next person (who has also placed a deposit), that person notifies the Kit Administrator, and I recieve $100 back. Someone reliable and trustworthy want to volunteer?

gmark

better yet if the kit ends up being a bunch of my tools am I exempt form the deposit?

I say that anyone not here for at least three months and has less than 100 posts have to pay the deposit.  Or maybe set up a "board" to decide who does and doesn't have to put up a deposit.  Not necessarily moderators, but a mixture of guys from the forum.  I would like to think that if I added tools in for the kit then there would be no deposit for me, so I wouldn't feel right by you having to do the deposit thing gmark.  I really wish more people would chime in with their thoughts about where this is headed.  Maybe someone should put a post in the GD area explaining the thoughts we have been throwing around and have a poll as well for people to vote.  Whaddya think?

gmark

Sounds good to me. I like the idea of at least one kit being out there.

i'll poke around and see what shims i have.

as for paypal, they take about 2-4 percent depending on the type of account and the source of the funds.  HOWEVER, you can refund a transaction with no fee, but the limit is like 30 days i think.

i'll donate extra shims if i have em..

though i dont really like the deposit idea..

im not gonna snag the set but sheesh im broke as is... thus the whole kit right? we dont want to blow $XXX on tools we wont use that often =-P

im not pushing 6 months.. and i just finally reached double digit on the posts...

though i am a post whore on several other boards =-O

oh well... maybe i'll have my buddy (who may be getting a GS) put up the deposit... as he'll have me adjust HIS valves too   :flipoff:

well if there is to be a deposit, then i think its fair that everyone has to pay it.

I don't think a deposit is needed. I was trying to get a new kit started when the other kits seemed to be lost. now that they are back I think we should just drop shims and such into the kits that are allready in use.
