^ just something to mull over, when gas reaches $5-6 /gallon this winter.

(yes, our fine european friends, i know you already pay more. just wait, we'll catch up in the US !)

Pretty neat deal...However,I hate to rain on the parade but.I don't see us getting threw the fall without a hit on Iran. When that happens look for an all out conflict in the sandbox.A few ships sunk in the straight of Hormuz,I can see oil at 200.00 plus a barrel and 8-10.00 gas.If you can find it.

I belive that Israel will use tactical nukes. If that happens, all bets are off.We are on a course that has been plotted long ago.We may even be hit here with tacnukes. It isn't farfetched that they could roll a couple of tankers with launch rails armed with scuds and nuclear warheads just off shore and hit any number of eastcoast cities.Or target the U.S. with an EMP attack, which will kill any electrical use that isn't sheilded to military specs. And pretty much knock out power over a very large area.Three or four EMP weapons exploded over the U.S. would do just about the whole country in.

I say store some gas and prep for the worst. It's coming...it's just a matter of time.

I've even heard that about 4:20pm on the 20th of June.We went on full alert.Russia was very active in the Atlantic.Boomers were given the codes and they were on the verge! Heavy radio traffic confirmed that their longrange bombers were in the air on going to their rally points.
All of this over a supposed attack pending on Iran by Israel and assisted by us.Russia was sending a sturn message..Take heed.Peace out.

Oh man yeah. My signature link to the Electricmotorcycles site works except the owner is rebuilding it with a different piece of software. Much news, blogging, and resources were there....or will be there.

I have an Etek motor and a spare GS frame I planned to put together except after weighing all the GS parts and apply the same to a spread sheet for Ebikes, the performance would be less than adequate for my desires.

I am now considering a custom composite frame with some GS donor parts.

Ebikes rule and will, I think, become the norm for under 75 mile round trip needs.

Oh not yet. Work is killing me lately and there is no end in sight for weeks to come.

I thought about trying a one-off frame using the GS frame as a mold maker. The only hitch is how to make the steering head strong enough to handle road stresses. I guess an aluminum sub-section with sections to tie into the composites would work.

These 10 - 16 hour days are making Doug no fun to be around.

Maybe when I retire...

the more far-fetched you make it sound, the more i think it could/will happen. our current gov't is just dumb enough to do it. :(

Ya man, the aluminum steering tube thing has been around for a while. GT bicycles did it, then TREK, and now I think every single frame maker has. It's really a beautiful thing to behold. It's wayyyy strong, but we're talking about allot of weight with all those batteries, and some big heavy ass (like myself) ape-ing it around ;)

Here's some old frame styles:

I don't know where to start......
Israel doesn't do shaZam! without running it by us first.  Nearly all of their tactical armament comes from us and they are NOT willing to do anything that could potentially jeoprodize  their supply source.  End of story.
Russia is a non-player.  They have no real military might other than severely antiquated technology incapable of reaching further than....say China.  Oh NO!!!  WALMART WOULDN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO SELL!!!!!
Full alert?!?!?!  July 20th???  Thursday???  I spent the night telling a Marine LtCol F-18 pilot he was a f%$king kitty cat Buddha Loves You at a local bar.  Somehow I doubt he would have been out drinking had there been an 'alert'  I still have a few ears in the community and heard nothing of value.
EMP's???????  Read much Sci-fi.  I really can't say much more about that :cookoo:  The cost to benefit is not acceptable, and a strike on the US would not be capable of affecting any of the tactical nuclear systems which would be sure to be coming online very shortly afterwards.

Pretty, but very OOOOllllld tech.

Look at what they're doing in aviation.  It's all bond-in.  I've done some of it myself.  No need for a metal steering head, just a very thin tube (say .030") as a placeholder for the bearings.  Bond that into your composite structure.  Works well.   :thumb:

At some stage I'm going to build an electric bike too.  Except I'm going the lithium ion, polyphase motor, and VFD route.   :)

If'n I get the time...

Or how about a German ebike (though a little spindly looking for my tastes) that looks like an electric assist pedal bike.

This may work for people that live near work, shopping and other daily activities. My G/F and I both have to travel to do everything. The only time we travel under 40 miles in a day is picking up the kids from school.90 miles round trip for her to go to work,40 miles round trip for groceries,500 miles round trip to visit family.I have a 15 FOOT trip to work.  Just gotta struggle to make it from the bed to my chair.  That gets tougher everyday.  Electric hybrid would be nice.More electric than hybrid would cut down on emissions and fuel consumption.

Dougy, build that Vortex into a hybrid electric.I have ideas for that. You know I have plans for building one.  :icon_mrgreen:
