My name is Mike, and I am a GS-aholic....

My, how the miles just roll on by on my new 07... picked her up brand-spankin' new on June 1.  Even w/ 2 weeks not riding (only 'cause the family went on vacation), I still managed to clear 3000 miles on my way to work this morning.  I'd say I'm diggin' it! :thumb:

With many miles comes many responsibilities, least of which will be my first valve check in a week or two, so I have a few questions.  I've watched Kerry's video and have no worries about the mechanical aspects of the operation.  Have others found the head cover gasket to be re-useable - or is the gasket pretty much shot when you pull the cover?  I'd like to hear your experiences on this...

Cheers & Beers!

if your going to do it i would buy the gasket just in case its not usable and it you have it left over sell it. or ship it to a broke colledge student with a leaking valve cover gasket.....................

the gasket will be fine... now after several years of valve adjustments maybe not, but since it's new, it'll be good. Did you see my zip tie trick thread?

Mine is a '92 which was crapily cared for before I got her and the gasket has been fine every time I cracked it open.  :thumb:

I put 80k miles on a 97 GS and changed the valve cover gasket at approx 30k and 60k miles.  They seem to dry out and start leaking a bit after 30k miles.  Just changed the gasket at about 60k miles for the 2nd time on my current 02 GS.
407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.
