Im still looking around for when the time comes that I upgrade to a bigger bike.  Im considering the buell xb line with a few others like the sv650 or 1000, and maybe a duc monster (but their so damn pricey and high maintnance so I almost count the duc out).

Ive read around on the forums and many people diss the buell xb for being A clunky B no guts C only up to 7k rpms D shakey idle E too hot in the legs F ugly gauges G too small H old sportster engine I whatever else, there IS more. 

But the one thing they say it has in its favor is A looks B cool technology C HANDLING.

A) doesn't matter when you're riding
B) is moot, they all have tech
C) is moot, they ALL have handling

Consider the trade in value of a buell vs cbr/gsx-r/r6/sv/whatever. And parts (used when you drop it). And reliability.

Have you actually ridden a Buell before commenting on one?

I enjoyed the Buell firebolt I rode, gobs of tourque and handled nicely. I know several Buell riders and only one of them has had reliability issues on the previous generation air cooled bikes and that was a bike he bought used that we think may have had something tweaked out of alignment.

I have not ridden the new rotax powered 1125r but I hear it's ear to ear fun, one guy locally went and did a buell track day and got to ride one for a session, he's an ex-racer and the control riders let him really open it up and play he couldn't stop grinning ear to ear about it. The other rider on the 1125r that I iknow is president of the local buell owners association and the bike really is a nice piece of work.

If you like a lower revving tourqe generating monster v-twin motor in a very nice flickable handling package don't discount the Buell.

The Buell also has more relaxed ergo's going for it, it's a comfortable bike to ride, you could buy a used RC51 but though it's an outstanding v-twin it's not all that comfortable.

It just doesn't match my riding style I like a bike the winds up to the stratosphere and punches you in the gut when it passes through 7k on the tach. 

Alll supersport bikes have frames that get hot, it's not buell specific. Dry sump oil system with the swingarm acting as a oil tank and fuel in the frame so you don't get the high center of gravity instability from a full fuel tank is kinda cool. Chain maintenace, what's that? Seriously the Buelll uses a belt drive with a tensioning idler pulley, no chain maintenance involved. Old school sportster motor, yes and no, it is a pushrod motor but the Buell motors were built to Eric's specs for the bike, and are fuel injected not carbed. They also use ducted fresh air intakes and a fan to keep fresh air moving over the heads.

Videos don't show any of the ABC of the bike, rather they show a skilled but reckless rider trying to kill himeself. Good job that lorry didn't have to brake for anything before he went underneath it on the blind corner or he would have been linched.

My personal opinion of buells, i like the idea, i like what they are going for, i like belt drive (best drive), however i dislike HD, and i hate how cheap and tacky they are. But then Americans and English have a totally different opinion of what is tacky. IMO buells are made of cheap plastic all over which altho the bike itself looks good the quality of the materials is shocking. But you know i think that about the interior of American cars too lol. You guys have such a warped reality of what makes a good interior lol.

Function over form, I don't care if it's burled walnut or injection molded textured plastic. If it goes like stink and is reliable that's what I am going to buy.

No we brits like to travel in style, i certinally would never sacrifice the quality of my car for the sake of going faster, if i wana go fast il buy a VX220, it has nothing in it, thats what its meant to have, no carpets no door panels just aluminium bare metal a steering wheel and a hellova motor. What i dont want is to buy a saloon with a large engine which aint really designed to be tearing up the tracks even though it could yet whiling away my morning commute listening to everything rattling and falling apart, grabbing hold of a bendy cheap plastic door handle and holding the air vents on everytime the fan comes on. I like build quality and i certinally like build quality and interiors over performance. That being said this forces me to expensive cars because i want a quality performance car with a quality interior.

Example in turn....

Honda Civic Type R GT 2007 - fantastic car, hot hatch, fast, great sport interior and packed the hell full of extras that you'd have to give an arm and leg for to get into a BMW.

compare this against a cheap hot hatch..

Renault Clio Cup, seriously fast hot hatch, but the interior is shocking there is nothing in their that would make you want to stay in for more than 5 seconds, from the foam rear bench to the not at all sporty seats, its a fantastic car to drive but to drive everyday would be horrid place to spend time in.

If they were doing a stripped out cup car, get rid of all the shitty interior and make it stripped out and chuck some bucket seats in, dont put a half arsed cheap interior.

Same in the motorcycle world.
