I have a 1997 gs500 and need a motor and want to know which years engine will fit this bike?
Will the new fairinged models engine also fit the older bikes?

Fairinged models need oil cooler bracket made. They also dont have tach fitting from the head and need the weird ass ignition trigger set ... may be able to fit the older type.
Anyway I have a bike I'd sell the motor out of. Ride it and take with you.
$350 and its in charlotte NC.
Anyway, 89-00 are the same, 01-09 are wee bit different ... but can be fiddled and made to work.

i have a 92 with no fairings and i have a 05 with the oil cooler. i just thought you would like to know that much.
