I have just bought my first bike and some of you were very helpful in my decison. The asking price was $1200, the final price was $850 with a new clutch.

I now own a yellow 89 GS500 with 20,000 miles on it and only 1000 miles since the engine was rebuilt. The clutch was replaced the day before delivery. The bike is pretty much stock except for new fork seals, a yoshi muffler, tank bra and the new yellow paint. It did not use to be yellow.

The throttle tube (whole throttle grip assembly) is very loose, the tachometer does not work, and I'm missing the circular rubber that covers the screw hole on the left fork below the gauges, and one of the amber pastic pieces that covers one of the indicator light below the gauges. Can anyone tell me as to where I can find these parts for replacement?

Well now seamax, congratulations on a fine looking bike. and for a good price too.

Note that year came original in white or in black only (USA), and had white wheels. yours looks great the way it is. If you need new throttle assembly check ebay or someone parting out a bike here.  all suzuki throttle switchgear assemblies are same (clutch side same too across the models and years). If you can find one for a newer bike they'll look nicer (not faded) and have newer design.

Other parts available through people inthe for sale forum here that are parting out bikes or on ebay. Local salvage yards are also a good bet.

I may have one of the amber lamp covers I can send you.
For rubber bits, especally on a bike as "mature" as yours I would just buy new ones from www.ronayers.com or www.bikebandit.com. In fact if you felt like treating your new bike, go thru the whole bike and check all the rubber grommets and such and replace the dry rotted ones.

Nice bike!!  Just to tag along, I went through my GS after picking it up and ordered new rubber grommets and various other bolts from www.bikebandit.com, excellent deals with them (great service and shipping).

How is the throttle tube loose? The cables can be adjusted at the carb end if there is just excessive play. Replacing the tube won't fix that. If you do replace the tube, many have replaced with Katana grips which are a little cushier.

The tach cables are known for unscrewing themsleves from the engine, mine did so with 1200 miles on the clock. Luckily I knew about the problem from here and just screwed it back in. A little teflon tape keeps it in.

I'll chime in on Bike Bandit and Ron Ayers, I've used both and been happy.
