EAST coast-who has kerry's valve adjusting kit?

Hello everyone,

I purchased my 2001 GS about two years ago and have been using this site ever since. This is my first post, since I usually just use the search feature to find answers to my questions - which someone here seems to have always asked before. I'd like to say thanks for all the information! Thanks to this site, I've upgraded to Progressive springs up front and did the DIY ignition advance modification. I just ordered a new 15 tooth front sprocket to install next week, and hope to go with a Jardine exhaust sometime soon.

My bike has 9500 miles on it, so I believe a valve adjustment is due. Is the east coast kit still out there somewhere? I've been waiting for someone to post any type of update on it, but haven't seen anything lately.

What do I need to do to get on the list?

Thanks,

Ray

I live in North Dakota... long ways from either coast. Can I be put in line for the kit? I wont need it until i get home for christmas break on the 19th.

Weston - I didn't receive the kit until a couple of days before the 19th and was actually out of town that week for work, so sorry I couldn't get it to you on the 19th. This past week was hectic with Christmas, but I am finished with the kit now. I assume you are next on the list of you still need it. I can mail it to you tomorrow (12/29) if you get me your address.

Edward - Yes there is a 270 shim in the kit. Sorry I didn't notice your post sooner. I could have mailed it when I first got the kit. I can mail it now if that is okay with everyone else here. But you may want to mail your 275 to whoever I mail the kit to instead of me, probably Weston if he still wants it.

Thanks to all involved in keeping this kit out there! I really appreciate having this available to use.

PS - One trick I think I learned - My clearance on one valve was to tight so I put in the next smaller shim from the kit that I calculated that I needed, but then the clearance increased more than expected, more than the difference in the two shims. I noticed the shim I got from the kit was "used" on one side, so I flipped it over and put the possibly slightly worn side down and the theoretically more flat unused side up. This worked and the clearance was now perfect. (Does this sound reasonable? I double checked my original shim after this to confirm I didn't measure it wrong.)

Very unrelated question.
East coast is @46 pages, west coats is @14. So east coast GStwinners out number west coast by over 3 to1.
Cool.

can i get on this list somehow?

picked up my bike last september; '91 and has 16k miles. however i'm not sure if it's EVER had it's valve clearance checked. What if kit doesnt have shims needed, where to order?

ron ayers motorsports stocks the shims, prolly Bikebandit as well.  But your local cycle shop probably has some used ones you can get cheap.   We have a Ron Ayers Motorsports in the next town to me, and they sold me used GS500 shims for $3.00 ea.
